AQUATICS ANDLAKEFRONTCAMPSGillson Youth AquaticsGrade 4-8 [ 2015-16 SCHOOL YEAR ]Enjoy Gillson <strong>Park</strong> and beautiful Lake Michigan.This unique experience takes place at thesouth end of Gillson <strong>Park</strong> between the pierand the <strong>Wilmette</strong> Harbor. Sunny beach dayactivities include kayaking, Hobie Cat sailing,banana boat rides, stand up and paddleboards. During rough water days, campersand energetic counselors will boogie board atthe water’s edge or play games on the beachwhich include Newcomb, baseball, volleyballand kickball. On stormy weather days, campmoves indoors to the Lakeview Center forboard games, art, jewelry making and otherinside activities. Each session begins withlessons in water and boating safety. Instructionincludes proper fitting of a life jacket, introductorykayak instructions and how to safely ridethe banana boat and Hobie Catamarans. Allparticipants must be able to swim 50 feetbefore enrolling. Best of all, SAILING IS FUN!Beginning students will learn the basics of sailingfrom how to rig a boat, basic safety on thewater, knots and sailing terms. Students willget out on Lake Michigan, learn boat handlingtechniques, tacking, capsizing and recovery.Intermediate classes are for those who havea solid knowledge of sailing. Intermediate studentswill polish their previously learned skillsand boat handling techniques. Sunfish boatsare used for instruction. A swimming test willbe given at the start of each session. Participantsmust be able to swim 50 feet. Allparticipants will wear lifejackets while on thewater. Classes will meet regardless of weatherand there are no make-up classes. Sailinginstructors reserve the right to move studentsto the appropriate level. Each class is limitedto 12 students. Each session consists of eightlessons.
