Index <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Journal</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> Institute <strong>of</strong> Architects<br />

The journal <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> NZIA was published under several titles (including Proceedings <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> Institute <strong>of</strong> Architects, <strong>Journal</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> Institute <strong>of</strong><br />

Architects) NZIA <strong>Journal</strong>, <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> Architect, Architecture <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong>) over <strong>the</strong><br />

years and was not indexed anywhere in its early years. (More recently it has been<br />

selectively indexed in Index <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong>.) Three Architecture Librarians at Vic<strong>to</strong>ria<br />

<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Welling<strong>to</strong>n compiled an index <strong>of</strong> all <strong>the</strong> articles published in it from<br />

1912- 1990.<br />

This index was published in 3 issues <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> VUW School <strong>of</strong> Architecture’s Working<br />

Paper Series covering 1912-1980 (WP 13), 1981-1985 (WP23) and 1986-1990 (WP<br />

25).<br />

Entries are arranged alphabetically by architect, building type/subject, place, author,<br />

and title.<br />

xx is used in some places <strong>to</strong> indicate ‘see’, referring <strong>the</strong> reader <strong>to</strong> an alternative<br />

heading for information.

INTRODUCTION<br />

In 1982 and 1986, cumulative indexes <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> journal <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> Institute <strong>of</strong> Architects<br />

(under its many variations in name) were published as Working Paper WP82-13 and WP 23,<br />

respectively. This publication represents <strong>the</strong> next five year supplement, covering <strong>the</strong> years 1986 <strong>to</strong><br />

1990.<br />

From Novemberpecember 1987 <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> Architect was incorporated in<strong>to</strong> Architecture <strong>New</strong><br />

<strong>Zealand</strong> and <strong>the</strong> numbering system changed. <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong>Architect had issue numbers so that 1,<br />

1987: 49-51 should read as <strong>the</strong> first issue <strong>of</strong> 1987, pages 49-51. Architecture <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> uses a<br />

range <strong>of</strong> months so that SepIOct 1988: 67-71 should read as <strong>the</strong> SeptemberIOc<strong>to</strong>ber issue, 1988,<br />

pages 67 <strong>to</strong> 71.<br />

STRUCTURE OF THE INDEX<br />

In general <strong>the</strong> structure follows that <strong>of</strong> earlier indexes - one alphabetical sequence <strong>of</strong> entries which<br />

may be accessed from some or all <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> following points:<br />
