Reportswere given by all branchesin attendance. BranchPresident Carl Wall welcomedthe ladies and gavepra<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>e <str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g> the work of theauxiliaries.Guest speaker <str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g> theoccasi<strong>on</strong> was ComradeDor<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> MacD<strong>on</strong>ald, presidentof New Water<str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g>dbranch. Dor<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> spoke <strong>on</strong>being in England duringthe war and her comingto Canada as a war bride.Treasurer Alaine Taylorthanked her and made apresentati<strong>on</strong> to CormradeDor<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> in appreciati<strong>on</strong> ofher presentati<strong>on</strong>.A dance followed.Westside Branch willhost the rally in 2010.Red Friday Seniors TeaArmstr<strong>on</strong>g MemorialBranch 19 takes theopportunity to host aSeniors Tea during NorthSydney’s annual Bar 90Days.In 2009, with thecooperati<strong>on</strong> of Bar 90Coordinator B<strong>on</strong>ita Gouthro,the legi<strong>on</strong> declaredthe event as “Red Friday”which was held <strong>on</strong> Fridayafterno<strong>on</strong>. All participantswere asked to wear redand all seniors attendingthe event were presentedwith a red carnati<strong>on</strong> bymembers of the Bar 90Committee. The hall wasa sea of red.Seniors were welcomedby Ladies Auxiliary PresidentClaudia Ivey whothanked all in attendance.Legi<strong>on</strong> Magazine report - photosBy Jean Marie DeveauxOn March 1 I attended the Legi<strong>on</strong>Magazine Corresp<strong>on</strong>dents meeting inOttawa.It was very in<str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g>mative. Legi<strong>on</strong> Magazinegets better and better every year.The staff <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> very friendly and willing tohelp with any problems we encounter.Every digital image <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> made up ofpixels. Legi<strong>on</strong> magazine requires <strong>13</strong>50pixels, 4.5” in size with a resoluti<strong>on</strong> of300dpi. Sound alien? It does to me too.I am not of the technical age. However,the magazine staff makes it easy .If youcannot set your camera to that resoluti<strong>on</strong>,take it to you camera store andthey will do it <str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g> you. The staff will doany changes that are necessary such asred-eye reducti<strong>on</strong>, cropping, etc. Whenyou take a photo of l<strong>on</strong>g service medals,such as 55, 60 years please make surethat it <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> a head and shoulders shot ofthe recipient.That’s all <str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g> th<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> time. A native of BayRoberts, Newfoundland,Mr. Pars<strong>on</strong>s volunteeredto serve in the <strong>Royal</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Canadian</str<strong>on</strong>g>Air Force in 1940.A navigator with CoastalCommand and SpecialServices Squadr<strong>on</strong>s, h<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>fields of service includedCanada, England, NorthAfrica, the AtlanticOcean, France andGermany. D<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>chargedwith the rank of Flight-Lieutenant, h<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> medalsinclude: Operati<strong>on</strong>alWings, the 1939-45 Star,the Atlantic Star, NorthAfrican Star, France andGermany Star, the <str<strong>on</strong>g>Canadian</str<strong>on</strong>g>Volunteer ServiceMedal, the Defense ofBrit<strong>on</strong> Medal and theWar Medal.Comrade Pars<strong>on</strong>sremained active in thelegi<strong>on</strong>, town and communityaffairs.
