UCLA Division of Undergraduate EducationDelson Scholarship ApplicationFor Entering FreshmenUCLA is pleased to announce the Delson Scholarship with preference given to students who attendedNimitz Middle School and/or who are graduates of either Bell High School (Bell, CA), or HuntingtonPark High School (Huntington Park, CA). Recipient must plan on enrolling full-time in UCLA College(of Letters and Science).Eligibility:Bell or Huntington Park High School graduate with a minimum (weighted or unweighted) 3.00GPA.Submit Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) for Fall Quarter.Must enroll in a major in UCLA College.Must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 2 andbe eligible for financial aid at UCLA.Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.Must perform a total of twenty community service hours during the academic year at NimitzMiddle School, as well as at Bell or Huntington Park High School.Award Amount:$8,000 per year.Renewable if a minimum cumulative 2.70 UCLA GPA is maintained.Application Procedure:Please send the following items in the order listed below.Please do not staple any portion of your application:Complete the Delson Scholarship application.Write an essay (500 words or less, two double-spaced pages maximum) that focuses on:The greatest challenge that you have overcome; how the Delson Scholarship would helpyou; why you want to be a UCLA graduate; and any extracurricular/ community serviceinvolvement.(The essay will represent a sample of your writing.)Provide a letter of recommendation from a school instructor or administrator.Note: Recommenders may mail the completed recommendation separately, but the reviewcommittee strongly suggests that recommendations be submitted by the student togetherwith all other requisite application materials.
