David Sabourin)Steven Snowden<strong>Philip</strong> <strong>Sinder</strong> serves as pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> tuba and euphonium at the<strong>Michigan</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Music</strong>, celebrating his 31styear in 2012-13. He has also served as principal tuba <strong>of</strong> theLansing Symphony Orchestra for 25 years. <strong>Sinder</strong> has performedwith many leading orchestras, including the Detroit Symphony,Chicago Symphony, St. Louis Symphony, and HoustonSymphony. He is a founding member <strong>of</strong> the Brass Band <strong>of</strong> BattleCreek, and also performs frequently with the <strong>Michigan</strong> OperaTheatre Orchestra, the Grand Rapids Symphony, the DetroitChamber Winds, as well as the Beaumont Brass Quintet <strong>of</strong> <strong>MSU</strong>.His solo tuba recording, “Aerodynamics”, has received strongcritical acclaim, including a review in the American Record Guidewhich states, “with his big and utterly stable tone quality,expressiveness, and well-honed technical skills, he makes virtuosopieces sound easy”.<strong>Sinder</strong> has appeared as tuba soloist throughout the United <strong>State</strong>s aswell as in Japan and Canada, and has been a featured artist attwelve international and regional conferences. He has alsocommissioned/premiered over twenty works featuring tuba. Hecurrently serves as chairman for the Leonard Falcone InternationalEuphonium and <strong>Tuba</strong> Festival (a world recognized solocompetition), and since 2005 has been a Valade Teaching Fellowat the Interlochen Arts Camp. <strong>Sinder</strong> earned a Bachelor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Music</strong>Education degree and Performer’s Certificate from the EastmanSchool <strong>of</strong> <strong>Music</strong>, and a Master <strong>of</strong> <strong>Music</strong> degree from Wichita <strong>State</strong><strong>University</strong>.Three Prayers (2010)ChantLament and InvocationNiggunKim Portnoy
