Whether your taste runs to the classical masters,opera, jazz, contemporary, or chamber music, we promiseyou something very special and exciting this year.I am pleased to report that the extensive acoustical renovationsto the <strong>Music</strong> Building Auditorium are on track and scheduled forcompletion in October. I hope you can join us when theauditorium reopens as the Cook Recital Hall in honor <strong>of</strong> Byronand Dee Cook, longtime friends and supporters <strong>of</strong> <strong>MSU</strong> and the<strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Music</strong>.In addition, major renovations to the Fairchild Theatre havebegun this summer, converting the 75-year-old facility into a<strong>state</strong>-<strong>of</strong>-the-art venue for principal use by the <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Music</strong>.This major project is slated for completion by Fall 2013. Thesemuch-needed renovations will transform the playing andlistening experience for our faculty, student musicians, andaudiences alike. Created by and featuring <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Music</strong>faculty in performances <strong>of</strong> chamber and solo piano music, theseries will include four concerts focusing on specific composers:All American in October, Rachmanin<strong>of</strong>f in November, Mozart inJanuary, and Brahms in February. At our patrons’ suggestionand due to the popularity <strong>of</strong> this series as well as the smallersize <strong>of</strong> the new Cook Recital Hall, we have established areserved-seating policy for all <strong>of</strong> the West Circle Series concerts.Each <strong>of</strong> these four concerts will <strong>of</strong>fer repeat performances – oneon Sunday afternoons, and the next on Monday evenings.The West Circle Series will conclude in March with the 13thAnnual Cello Plus Chamber <strong>Music</strong> Festival <strong>of</strong>fering a week filledwith the music <strong>of</strong> Schubert, Beethoven, Bach, and Brahms. Comeearly to all <strong>of</strong> the West Circle concerts to hear preview lecturesby experts who will discuss aspects <strong>of</strong> the composers’ lives,traditions, and techniques.
