Program Sponsorship OpportunitiesThe following are examples of GCNYC programs currently available for sponsorship. Each of these hasbeen tailored both to articulate a real need of our organization and to provide prospective partners with anopportunity for targeted profile building.Customized Membership Planning for New Members$50,000 / yearThe community and programming created at GCNYC is reflective of the members’ needs. BecauseGCNYC is a member-driven community, the intake process we employ is critical to the maintenance of anenvironment conducive to building emotional and social support. Intake consists of two steps: the NewMember Meeting, a group orientation and introduction to GCNYC, and the Customized Membership Plan,a one-on-one meeting between a new member and a social worker to assess a prospective member’s needsand what GCNYC programs would best meet them. This process is critical for a new member because it oftenprovides their first recognitionof the emotional and socialburden that accompanies acancerdiagnosis, along with therealization that support isavailable. The process is criticalfor GCNYC because it allowsus to assess the appropriatenessof each prospective memberfor our community: identifyingin advance the need for otherservices beyond our scope, such as housing, financial aidand psychiatric assessment. In the past several years,we have seen a dramaticincrease in the number ofprospective members facingmultiple mental health issuesin addition to the emotionalburden of cancer; currently, 3out of 5 prospective memberstake medication for some psychological or behavioral issue. This trend has required us to more carefullyscrutinize prospective members, and often, to collaborate with members’ mental health team and/or othercare providers in order to sustain their healthy participation. At the same time, the pool of clinical socialworkers willing to volunteer their time for Customized Membership Plan meetings has dwindled whileour membership has increased. We have approximately 420 CMP meetings per year between our twosites, and are finding it increasingly necessary to pay social workers to facilitate these meetings.
