Dorothy Maraman, Dorothy Samuels and Dorothy Bridwell had their tonsils removed in Louisville last Saturday. Herman Crenshaw and Ade Harris, of Solitude, were here Monday. Col. Geo. Buckman was over in town Monday. Henry Maraman spent Monday and Tuesday in the city taking in the Automobile Show. Miss Aldena Barrall, of Knob Creek, has entered school here. Chester Hill spent Tuesday here. Guy Hecker left Saturday for Atlanta, GA and several other southern cities on a pleasure trip. Several cases of flu are reported in town. Page 36 Mrs. F. M. Hardy has returned to her home at West Point after spending some time with relatives here. Mr. Lindsay Ridgway has been on the sick list this week, his complaint being a very severe cold. Mr. Ridgway is one of the most efficient clerks this county ever possessed and when it come to being polite and obliging, he just simply heads them all off. “Hook” has thousands of loyal friends who will be glad to know that he is better. Miss Maria Foster is spending this week in Louisville with friends. Leyton Lash spent last week with his sister, Mrs. C. F. Troutman. Mesdames Brandon and Maraman spent last Thursday with Mrs. P. H. Henderson. Rev. and Mrs. T. L. Crandell are spending some time with their son in W. Va. Miss Katie Keating, of Louisville, spent the week end with the Misses Pope. Mr. and Mrs. Thos. McDonald spent Sunday with Rev. Banks. Mr. Ewing Crenshaw has returned home after spending several days at Decatur, Ill. Mrs. Carl Daugherty left Tuesday for West Point to spend a few days. Miss Lillian Kelley spent Sunday with Mrs. W. F. Joyce. S. B. Stephens and wife have moved to the Foster Hotel. Ewing and Clarence Crenshaw were at Boston one day last week. Picture Show The picture show at the Masonic Temple, Shepherdsville is perhaps
the very best one to be shown there in months. Also one reel of Harold Lloyd Comedy. Prices 10 and 20 cents. The Temple has installed its own electric plant so that picture shows will be run there regularly, either its own or the town plant surely. Suicide Since the signing of the Armistice, there has been a constantly increasing number of suicides everywhere according to a report issued Monday by the Save a Life League. In Germany, Syria and other foreign counties where the number has been very large, the cause is attributed to despair because of miserable living conditions brought about by the war. The report tabulated 5,121 cases of suicide in the U. S. during 1919. Of the professions, lawyers led the lst with 43 of whom 12 were judges, 36 victims were physicians, 28 teachers and 11 clergymen. The list included 20 presidents of large business concerns, 50 prominent club members, millionaires and wealthy society women. Unhappy marital relations were responsible for 350 tragedies. Barrall, Editor Transcribed from Microfilm by Edith Blissett in the year 2004 Hebron Mrs. Al Miller has received a message telling of the death in Colorado of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Tom Baker. She leaves besides her husband, a little daughter. Her death was due to influenza. Rev. Olander preached at Little Flock Sunday morning, but owning to severe weather, did not preach in evening. Morton Long and sister left Tuesday for Oklahoma City, Okla. The Valentine party held at the schoolhouse here Friday evening by the Junior Mason Band of Hebron was a success both socially and financially. Miss Birdie Ball, who has a position at the Custom House, spent Sunday at home here. Miss Katie May Ball is trying to get a spring school at Hebron. Miss Mary Bell having decided not to teach here since her father has sold his farm at Brooks and bought at Okolona. Miss Irene Brooks has returned from a visit to her sister, Mrs. Priest, at Anchorage. Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Brooks have gone to Anchorage to be the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Rich Priest. Dr. and Mrs. Holsclaw spent a very enjoyable day with Mrs. Sarah Summers at Huber Tuesday. Mrs. Summers is one of the “shut ins” but takes an active interest in current events and is very loyal to old friends. All received honorable mention. Mr. and Mrs. S. N. Brooks were called to the city last week to attend the funeral of a relatives of Mr. Page 37 Carter who died suddenly of angina pectoris. Mrs. Carter is remembered here as Miss Maria Metcalf. Miss Nellie Mae Scott and Kate Melton spent the week end with relatives at Okolona. John Walter Holsclaw has influenza, a light case. Miss Ruth Thornton spend the week end with Miss Vida Long. Mrs. A. L. Rogers spent a few days with relatives in New Albany last week. The next meeting of the WMS of Little Flock will be with Mrs. Will Shirley March 11. Feb. 5, we found on the pike near Bells Store the drawer of a sewing machine, evidently lost from a moving van. Will be glad to restore same to owner. March 5, 1920 School News Miss Ethel Wise and sister, of Belmont, were here Saturday. Miss Mary E. Bell left Monday for Jefferson County where she has accepted a school in that county. Miss Katie May Ball has opened a large spring school at Hebron. Patrick Pope, a pupil in the local high school and one of the guards on the famous Midget Boys basketball team is ill with pneumonia but is much improved today. Miss Elizabeth Cash left Monday for Cupio to assist Miss Margaret Hardesty in finishing the school at Nichols. There is no doubt in our minds now, but that our teaching force will be better paid this year.
