The Christian Institute2.5 The Christian Institute asked <strong>the</strong> public <strong>to</strong> consider submitting <strong>the</strong>ir ownresponses <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Government’s scheme. While inviting individual responses,<strong>the</strong> Institute explained in <strong>the</strong>ir briefing why <strong>the</strong>y believed Christians shouldoppose <strong>the</strong> scheme.2.6 Our analysis of content suggests that <strong>the</strong> Government received 202 lettersdrawing on The Christian Institute’s briefing.Organisations2.7 The Government also received 192 responses from a number of organisationsrepresenting lesbian, gay and bisexual groups, <strong>the</strong> public and <strong>the</strong> privatesec<strong>to</strong>r, voluntary organisations, trade unions, nationally-based religiousgroups and individual congregations.74% of organisations responding supported <strong>the</strong> principle of a civilpartnership scheme 42.8 Of those Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual organisations that responded: 595% (35 responses) supported <strong>the</strong> Government’s proposal;5% (2 responses) opposed, or did not offer an opinion on, <strong>the</strong> principle of acivil partnership scheme.4142 responses expressing support out of 192 responses (142/192 * 100 = 73.9%).5Many of <strong>the</strong>se groups also represented <strong>the</strong> interests of <strong>the</strong> transgender community.10
