<strong>Coatings</strong> <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>File</strong> (CTF)• Requirement of <strong>IMO</strong> Performance Standardfor Protective <strong>Coatings</strong> (<strong>PSPC</strong>)– Specification of Coating System applied todedicated seawater ballast tanks and double-sideskin spaces– Record of shipyard’s and ship owner’s coatingwork and inspections (new construction andmaintenance & repair)


<strong>Coatings</strong> <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>File</strong> (CTF)• New Construction Stage shall contain at leastthe following:– Copy of Statement of Compliance or TypeApproval Certificate (TAC)– Copy of <strong>Technical</strong> Date Sheet– Shipyard Work Records of Coating Application– Procedures for inspection and Repair


<strong>Coatings</strong> <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>File</strong> (CTF)• New Construction Stage shall contain at leastthe following (cont):– Coating Log issued by the coating inspector– Shipyard verified inspection report– Procedures for in-service maintenance and repairof coatings system


<strong>Coatings</strong> <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>File</strong> (CTF)• In-Service Maintenance, Repair & PartialRecoating activities shall be recorded in theCTF• If full recoating is performed new-constructionrequirements in effect• The CTF shall be kept on-board andmaintained throughout the life of the ship


Interpretation• Shipyard is responsible for compiling the initialCTF and turning over with Ship• Will contain all information per <strong>PSPC</strong> 3.4 andthe inspection processes agreement

Minimum Requirements ?• Dry Film Thickness (DFT) readings for examplehave been estimated at 1,700 per block• Minimum requirements may present hugedata collection issues

TG 402 Goals• To develop a best practices standard for:– Data collection and management duringshipbuilding and final presentation uponcompletion– Continued data collection of ballast tank servicecondition and any maintenance & repair efforts• Best Practices to include system requirementsfor both computer-based systems and hardcopysystems
