Involuntary Commitment Process• A person is first brought to a screeningservice to be assessed to determine whatmental health services are appropriate.• The individual is examined by a mentalhealth screener who determines if thepatient meets the legal criteria forinvoluntary commitment.• If so, the screener provides a screeningdocument.18
Involuntary Commitment Process• The individual is then examined by apsychiatrist who determines whether or notthe individual meets clinical requirements forcommitment.• If so, the psychiatrist completes thescreening certificate.• Both screener and psychiatrist must agree.19
