About this job:You will help make healthcare better forpeople with learning disabilities in thehospitals and in the community.You will be part of a team of people withlearning disabilities which helps the healthservice to meet the needs of people with alearning disability.To do this you will be checking services,training staff, giving talks to staff and otherpeople with a learning disability.You will be working with the Liaison Nurses.We give advice and suggest ways to improvehealthcare in the hospitals and communityhealth services.You will make sure that health staffunderstand and equally respect all people witha learning disability.You will help people to learn how to stayhealthy and how to access health services.5


What you need to know to do this jobYou will need to know about learning disabilityservices.You need to understand about healthpromotion.Understand that people with a learningdisability are more likely to have poor healththan others.6

Working with other people:You will have to give people information andget information from other people.You will work with Liaison Nurses, and otherhealth staff.You may be working with different groups,<strong>Cornwall</strong> Council and <strong>member</strong>s of the public.The main things you need to do in this job:You will help make healthcare better forpeople with learning disabilities in thehospitals and in the community.You will be part of a team which helps thehealth service to meet the needs of peoplewith a learning disability.To do this you will be checking services,training staff, giving talks to staff and otherpeople with a learning disability.9

If you need helpyou must ask.How difficult this job is:You will need to be able to move around andcarry things like booksSometimes you may need to climb stairs ortake a liftYou may need to use a computer as partof your job.You will need to concentrate for differentamounts of time. Sometimes there will bethings going on around you while you areworking.You may sometimes see and hear someupsetting things at work.11


What you have to do at work:Follow rules safety needs, for example if thefire alarm goes offFollow instructions about working in thehealth service in <strong>Cornwall</strong> & Isles of Scilly.For example, booking time off for a holiday ortelling your manager if you are sick and needtime off work.Once a year set goals and look at the workyou have already done. You will have helpwith making a work plan from your manager.You must keep all information private; do nottell other people outside of the team. Do nottalk about any private information about otherpeople in the CHAMPS team.Be available to work if an important meetingis made.You will need to go on training to help youwith your work.Be respectful to others. Be reliable, hardworking, trustworthy, friendly and helpful.12
