Manager of CRC. A<br />
New Jersey native, she<br />
attended Stephens College<br />
in Columbia prior<br />
to joining the CRC in<br />
2002. During her time<br />
as an undergraduate, she<br />
served as the Chemistry<br />
Laboratory Assistant for<br />
the college’s Natural<br />
Science Department<br />
and served as an officer<br />
in several honor societies. The summer of her<br />
junior year she was elected to Sigma Xi, the Scientific<br />
<strong>Research</strong> Society, for her HIV-1 research work when<br />
she was an infectious disease intern in Galveston, TX.<br />
She graduated Magna Cum Lade from Stephens in<br />
2002, with a BS in Biology and a minor in Chemistry.<br />
She is the eldest of three; her family now resides in<br />
Lawrence,KS.<br />
J acki Kian Mehr<br />
was born and raised in<br />
Jefferson City, MO. She<br />
is the youngest of six<br />
children. Jacki attended<br />
Jefferson City High<br />
School and graduated<br />
in 1984. While in high<br />
school, she worked on a<br />
research project on embryo<br />
transfer. Jacki attended<br />
CMSU and there<br />
she met her husband<br />
of 25 years. They have<br />
four girls ages 24, 22, 9 and 7. Along with being a<br />
homemaker for 19 years, Jacki was an advocate for<br />
the disabled. Since then she has returned to her love<br />
of research at the <strong>Cancer</strong> <strong>Research</strong> <strong>Center</strong>.<br />
Meet the CRC Staff<br />
Dr. Robert A.<br />
Kazmierczak<br />
came to CRC as the<br />
Raymond W. Freese<br />
Fellow. He now serves as<br />
Senior Investigator. He<br />
received his BS in Bacteriology<br />
at the University<br />
of Wisconsin, studying<br />
regulation of Vitamin<br />
B12 production by<br />
Salmonella enterica<br />
(serovar Typhimurium)<br />
and interning at Upjohn<br />
Pharmaceuticals. He earned a MA and PhD in Microbiology<br />
from the University of Illinois, during which<br />
time he held an NIH Cell and Molecular Biology<br />
Training Grant Fellowship to research chronic viral<br />
infections. He later studied at Washington University<br />
in St. Louis. At the CRC he is conducting research<br />
to characterize and develop therapeutic Salmonella<br />
enterica as a treatment for prostate cancer.<br />
D r. C hengzhi Wang<br />
is from China. He<br />
attended Medical School<br />
at Southeast University,<br />
China, and graduated in<br />
2006. Later he turned to<br />
bioscience to pursue his<br />
Ph.D. at Peking University<br />
Health Science <strong>Center</strong> in<br />
Microbiology since 2007.<br />
In November, 2009,<br />
with the support of the<br />
Chinese government, he<br />
came to America as a visiting<br />
student and joined the<br />
CRC. At the CRC, he is working on the project of therapeutic<br />
Salmonella enterica as a treatment for prostate<br />
cancer along with his colleagues. He is the only son of<br />
his parents and married his wife in Beijing in 2009.<br />
