In most cases, a healthy immune system cankeep the balance between ‘good’ bacteria, and funguslike Candida. These days we are seeing more and morepeople suffering with Candida imbalances. Some causesof Candida may include the modern diet, such as eatinga high amount of refined sugar and processed foods, prolonged use of antibiotics, use of the Birth Control Pill(BCP), as well as immunosuppressant drugs. Because anovergrowth of Candida can lead to such a diverse groupof chronic symptoms, it is very difficult to diagnose. Manyconventional medical doctors may treat symptoms, suchas yeast infections or thrush, but will not tend to viewthe connection between Candida and these symptoms. In addition, there is no accepted medical test available, outside of allergic antibody testing, to determine theexistence of an overgrowth of Candida. Because of this,it often goes undiagnosed or is wrongly diagnosed asseparate symptoms depending on the parts of the bodyit has affected. A Candida infection is of concern becauseit can also become a systemic issue and lead to a varietyof symptoms such as:• Digestive symptoms (pain, gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhea)• Itching (skin, ears, vagina, rectum etc.)• Skin problems (acne, eczema etc)• Mood changes (anxiety, depression, mood swings, difficulty in thinking clearly, poor memory)• Reproductive health ( PMS, painful menstruation, infertility, low sex drive)In my professional experience, the “Candida Diet”can be very successful for cases of mild Candida. In fact, dietary changes are often a necessary part of decreasingand eliminating symptoms of Candida. Also, introducinga good quality pro-biotic into the daily diet can be verybeneficial. However, I treat a lot of patients with Candidaand repeatedly hear how the Candida diet did not alleviateor remove their symptoms. Certain diseases are hygienicin nature but there are also many conditions that can’t besolved by dietary changes alone. This is usually when theyseek homeopathic treatment.Homeopathic medicine is beneficial because it takesinto consideration your unique experience of Candida, andincludes the mental, emotional and physical symptoms asa whole. In most, if not all cases of Candida overgrowth, people experience a number of the above symptoms, notHOMEOPATHIC HEALINGSarah TraskBKin, DSHomMed Hons, HD(RHom.)Doctor of Homeopathic Medicine“Homeopathy cures a large percentage of cases, more thanany other method of treatment and is beyond all doubt safer, more economical, and the most complete medical science.”~Mahatma Gandhi112 Front St., Unit 116, Wolfville, NS (902) 542-2317www.homeopathichealing.ca sarah@homeopathichealing.cajust one. A Homeopath would want to know specificallyeach symptom you are experiencing, and how thesymptoms are unique to you. Therefore, each patient withCandida would most likely receive a different remedy. Inmost cases, the selection of a homeopathic remedy willalso help to address other chronic health issues that havebeen bothering you, whether it’s migraines or constipationor PMS or anxiety/depression. Candida affects the entiretyof the person, and not in single parts. If you have chronicand/or unusually persistent Candida-like symptoms, consult your healthcare provider. This may be a sign ofan underlying illness such as diabetes or immune systemdysfunction, which makes for an environment moreconducive to the growth of yeast. This time of year isespecially bad for people with Candida issues which canbe exacerbated by alcoholic drinks, heavy foods, andfoods high in sugar. Try not to overdo things, and be sureto take a good probiotic such as Acidophilus Bifidus.

12 - Apple Valley Scoop - December 2009TheParentingExchangewithPamelaPamela HaightBeing a parent is one of the most difficult, yet most rewarding “jobs” a person willever do. Many people think that oncetheir child is born, parenting will just comenaturally, but the truth of the matter is thatit takes a great deal of time and experienceto develop effective parenting skills. Howmany of us have criticized someone for theway they were raising their child, and thenonce we had our own children gained anew understanding and empathy for whatthe other parent was going through?Through my 25 years of experienceworking with children and families, I haveobserved many different parenting styles. As I write this article, I am drawing from myexperiences and training over the course ofmy career and from personal experience.Personally, I am the mother of one child. Iwas a single mom for a period of time, andthen I also became a step-mother and nowa step-grandmother. Professionally I aman Early Childhood Educator. For the past17 years I was the Director of a Preschool,Kindergarten and Before and After schoolprogram. In addition to this, I obtaineda certificate as an accredited provider ofLevel 3 Primary Care Triple P, from theTriple P-Positive Parenting Program. I oftenget asked about my opinion on variousparenting topics. I certainly don’t claim tohave all of the answers, but I do have myopinions and ideas and have been asked toshare them with you. There are so many different theories aboutraising children. I think it is important toexplore different theories of child-rearing.Some of the research can include readingbooks, checking parenting websites on-line,and talking to your own parents, friendsand relatives. It is a good idea for parentsto sit down and discuss, as a team, whatis comfortable for both parties. If parentspresent themselves as a united front to theirchildren, they avoid being “played” oneagainst the other. This helps to make thechild feel secure so they don’t feel like theyare constantly searching and testing newboundaries and limits. In addition, workingtogether models good, co-operativebehaviour for the child. When partners“parent” together, it is conducive to asense of love and support that strengthensthe marital and family bond. If you areco-parenting as a result of separation ordivorce, I believe, this approach is equally,if not more, important in helping the childfeel safe, secure, loved and protected byboth parents. As a single parent, establishwhat falls in your own comfort level thatis positive for the child and can be sharedwith any support systems that may beinvolved, including relatives, friends andgrandparents, again presenting a unitedfront. There is no such thing as the perfectparent or child. In accepting this, Ibelieve, we will take a lot of stress offof ourselves and our children. It is myintent to create a discussion with parentsabout various topics, through this article. Please send your questions and/or opinionsto pam@applevalleyscoop.com so we canget a great exchange going to help promotea positive parenting environment for ourchildren.TEMPTING YOUR SENSESIN THESE FINE COMMUNITIESWOODMAN’S GROVEWolfville, NSCANAAN HEIGHTSKentville, NSSAWMILL CREEKCambridge, NSBUSH LANE ESTATE LOTSGreenwich, NS

14 - Apple Valley Scoop - December 2009ChristmasTipsfor yourPetsWith all the excitement at Christmastime,it’s important to remember our pets andpotential safety concerns. Here’s an excerpt from Dr. Emma Raghavan’sarticle that appeared in the Halifax DailyNewsAs the holidays near and our homes fillwith hope and excitement, it is importantto remember that many potential hazardsface our furry friends. Some of the hazardsare more dangerous than others and somemore obvious than others. Many a curious feline and the occasionalpuppy find the electric cords to be fascinatingtoys. The problem that can occur is whenthe Christmas lights are on and those sharpteeth pierce into the wires. Electrocutionmay only cause minor burns to the tissues(usually of the mouth). However, it maycause more serious conditions in the lungs(fluid accumulation) or abnormal rhythmsin the heart. A few ways to help preventelectric shock from occurring are to removeall tags from cords, try to prevent danglingof cords and if necessary be sure that petsare well supervised while the lights are on.Then there is the holiday food itself.Oh how tempting it all is…. chocolates, turkey, bones, fat… It is best to stick withFido’s usual diet to prevent the upset thatcomes from dietary change. All bonescan potentially cause inflammation in thestomach and intestines and may splinterTheFire Dogand cause perforation. A high fat intakemay reek havoc on the pancreas - the organthat is responsible for the production ofdigestive enzymes. Pancreatic inflammation(pancreatitis) can cause severe illnessin animals. Last but not least heavenlychocolate that surrounds us during theholidays, often mistaken by dogs for a goodtreat. Chocolate contains theobromine andcaffeine. Different types of chocolate containdifferent amounts each - theobromine is thepredominant toxic component with caffeineusually in much lower concentration. Ifyour pet ingests chocolate - contact yourveterinarian. Chocolate can not only causeGI upset but has more serious effects onthe nervous system (can lead to tremorsor seizures) and may cause an increase inheart rateHoliday plants can also be a risk factor -while poinsettia has long been thought ofas poisonous - its main effect is mechanicalirritation of the stomach leading to vomiting.Less innocent are mistletoe; holly and ivyshould be kept out of reach. We hope you and your pets enjoy a happyand safe holiday.Submitted by Jodi Banks, Scotian GoldCooperative LimitedSubmitted by Scotian GoldBest FriendsFashion BinsUsed Clothing Outlet565 Main St. Kingston(free parking across the road)902-765-0091email: bf-fb@live.comMonday - Friday 9-9, Saturday 9-5and Sunday 10-5Proud Supporters for the cureA nursery school teacher was delivering a stationwagon full of kids home one day when a fire truckzoomed past. 18 - Apple Valley Scoop - December 2009Busting the“Shavingmakes itworse” MythCarrie YeoOwner/TechnicianThe only thing worse than having darkhair on your face, is thinking that you didsomething to put it there. If you could goback in time and tell yourself not to pluck thatone little stray black hair, then you wouldn’tbe in this position...right? Wrong! If youhadn’t shaved your Write Area Here then youwouldn’t have to do it today, right? Wrong! The hair would have come anyway. There isthis image that we anger the ‘Hair God’ and itsends more as a punishment. If this was true, there would a lot fewer bald men.The main thing that changes hair growthis hormones (medications and stress are alsoinfluences) and they change throughout ourlife; and, therefore, so does our hair. Points intime like puberty, pregnancy and menopause, women often see big changes in their hair andwhere it grows because hormones fluctuatemost during these times. Even men, as theyage, see it appear on their back, ears and soon. No one is exempt. It’s the hardest myth to bust, because of theillusion of more hair occurs when you make itblunt and stubbly when you shave. However, the cellular design of the hair has not changed. If given the chance the hair will grow back asit was originally designed. It takes months forvirgin hairs to take the place of the shavedones. Any new hairs that you might seeappear would have come anyway. The truthis it is not that you got more hair because youshaved; it is that you got more hair, SO thenyou shaved. I realize that this informationcontradicts generations of motherly advice, soif you are finding it hard to believe, Google it.Really, when it all comes down to it all thatreally matters is what happens next. So, howare you going to take control of this? It’s notgoing to cause more hair if you shave it- we’veestablished that, but there are all sorts of otherdrawbacks associated with shaving and theother methods that are used. There are so many options and it is goodto look at all of the options that are out thereto make sure that you are choosing the bestsolution for you. Sometimes clients comein to see me, and after the consultation andsome discussion, we discover that laser mightnot be the best solution at that point in time.In certain circumstances, I have recommendedthat clients try other services and have a greatreferral network of skilled service providersranging from Estheticians to Electrologistswhose main concern is to help you reach yougoal of feeling comfortable in your skin. SupportingtheGrievingJim NortonLicensed FuneralDirectorWhenever there is a death, peoplewant to reach out to bring comfort to thegrieving family. While everyone wants toreach out in love, some people are hesitantand uncertain because they don’t knowwhat to say and do. I find “being present”is most important to a person who hasjust lost a loved one or a close friend, TheChristian community that they belong toshould reach out to the remaining family’sneeds. This ensures the person grieving isnot without love and support. So we must“listen with the heart”. It is very frustratingto find out that their families or friends willnot allow them to talk about their loss.Grieving people need to tell and retelltheir story over and over again. As eachstory is retold, a layer of pain is strippedaway. Just like peeling an onion one layerat a time to reach the core. This allowsthe grieving person to speak honestly andwith emotional feelings being expressed.Sometimes what can most effectivelyconvey deep caring and concern; is a simpletouch or an embrace. The act of a humantouch communicates warmth, caring, love,a healing power that it eases pain, lessensanxiety, softens the blow in life and giveshope. Touching a shoulder or clasping ahand in silence may convey more supportthan many words. Sometimes a brief prayerof thanks for the life of the deceased isusually appropriate and much appreciated.Love and support the family withthoughtful actions, with touch, with yourpresence, and with your simple prayer. Thefeeling of loss takes over and the crying maybegin. You can show by your acceptancethat it is ok to cry. Remember that Jesuswept over Lazarus. If you are so movedto cry this can be a real blessing. Cryingin the presence of one another is healthyfor everyone involved and potentiallystrengthening to the whole family.I find most people return to their ownroutines after a number of weeks andsuddenly the grieving find themselves aloneand feel isolated; and totally abandoned.People who stay in contact months laterafter a death are wise because they spreadthe support and extend the friendship overthe grieving period, when most other peoplefade into the background. So it is importantto stay in contact with the grieving untiltime heals.Sometimes sending a note can be a highDecember 2009 - Apple Valley Scoop- 19point of the day for the bereaved, the morethey receive the better they feel. Additionally, you may consider going potluck to helpease your hosting load.* Less mess equals less stress. Minimize your time in the kitchen by stickingto menu items that can be enjoyed right out of the package. For example,an array of crackers and crudites, served with your favorite packaged dips, spreads and cheeses, can be set out at the beginning of a holiday party andsimply replenished as needed. Seafood cheese balls from Salads of the Seaare another “set it and forget it” holiday favorite.* Pack your secret weapons. One or two winning recipes are all it takes tokeep your guests raving for weeks to come -- and you don’t have to be aworld-class chef to pull it off. Learning toDrive....Getting your licence can be a dauntingtask for new drivers. The costs involved, theresponsibility, whether or not totake a driving course and which oneyou should take are but a few of thethings to consider. Gathering theinformation to make good decisionsis crucial in the long term. The Graduated Licensing Programrequires new drivers to take either afull or a six hour defensive drivingcourse in order to get a Class 5licence. The full course would include25 hours of classroom theory and 10hours of in car training. The otherincludes classroom theory only andYoung Drivers recommends takingthis course during the early stagesof learning to drive. Regardless ofwhich course is taken, newly licenseddrivers (5N) will have to stay in theprogram for two years. During these two yearsdrivers must remain suspension free. The benefits of taking a full course are many. The most important would be to have learnedto drive safely, not just following the rules ofthe road but knowing how to protect yourselffrom those who do not. Consider what thecourse offers from a defensive driving pointof view. Passing the road test may be the finalgoal for most, but the course should give youthe skills required to protect yourself, yourpassengers and the other road users. You needconfidence in the split second decisions youmay have to make. The waiting period to go for a road test isshortened from six months to three with thefull course. This is because of the ‘experience’you should have gained through taking thecourse and practicing. Ten hours of in-carinstruction is often not enough so practicingwith a class 5 driver between lessons is alsorecommended by Young Drivers.December 2009 - Apple Valley Scoop- 27The same reasoning applies to the insurancediscounts. Some insurance companies givenew drivers who have taken the full course avote of confidence by offering reasonable rates.Depending on your circumstances, savings cansometimes pay for the course in as little as oneyear.Choosing a driving school can also be difficult.Because all driving schoolsmust meet the same minimumstandards, most people thinkthat all courses are the same. This is not the case. One of thebasic differences would includethe approach to the classroomand in-car instruction. It is notjust what is taught but howit is taught in order for thestudent to learn and retain theinformation and skills. It is important to note thatdriving schools are all privatelyowned companies. All arerequired to meet the standardsset out by the Registry of MotorVehicles Driver Training SchoolRegulations. These regulationsfor example restrict classroom time to 7 hoursin a 24 hour period and 2 hours of in-cartraining per session. This is to maximize thelearning experience.Driving can be an enjoyable experience, butalso one of the most dangerous. Be sure youare prepared.“I can’t Believe he’s old enoughto drive!”BECAUSE SHE’S STILLYOUR BABYYou’ll always want what’s best for her. When it comes to driver trainingyou’ll want to choose Young Drivers of Canada. YD teaches more than justthe basics. With YD’s Colissionfree! Progress is being made across thecountry and Nova Scotia’s recent changeswere a step in the right direction.Campaign 911 is another initiative encouragingpeople to report drivers they suspectmay be drinking. MADD works closelywith law enforcement and appreciates theirefforts to make our roads safer. They havelimited resources covering a large area sothe public is asked to help by alerting themto possible impaired drivers.Strides for Change is an annual walk toraise awareness of the organization. It isalso used as a fundraiser to pay for suchthings as handouts during roadside checks, ads promoting Campaign 911, or the youthprograms.Wasted, the multimedia show created forteens will be seen in all schools throughoutthe Valley in the spring. That moral support can continuethrough the court system. While progress has been made with raisingawareness of the dangers of drinkingand driving, drugs have become a growingconcern. Marijuana is the most commonlyused and there are misconceptions aboutits ability to impair judgment. With the holidays approaching MADDChapter members ask that everyone takethe time to plan their celebrations so thatall may enjoy the season. If you are goingout please make arrangements to have adesignated driver, take a taxi, or just stayover. Keep in mind that you do not haveto be over the legal limit to be impaired assome people respond differently to alcohol.Think about things like whether or not youare tired, on medications, or if you haveeaten. The following answeris paraphrased from material produced bythe Canadian Association for CommunityLiving. (http://www.cacl.ca/english/aboutus/definitions.asp)Intellectual disability is a term used torefer to the challenges that some peopleface in learning and communication. Thesechallenges are usually present from thetime they are born or from an early age.Often the most serious challenges peoplewith intellectual disabilities face are thestereotypes, negative perceptions anddiscrimination by others in response tounique and different ways of learning andcommunicating.Intellectual disability was at one timecalled mental retardation. People who havean intellectual disability tell us they resentbeing labeled by this term. “Label jars, notpeople” we are often told. For this reason,we always refer to people for who they are,as people first.Preferred terms are: intellectual disability;developmental disability.About 2% of the Canadian populationhas an intellectual disability. The three Flowercart programs areDevelopmental Services Area, Vocational, comprised of Baker’s Choice Fine Foodsand the Used Clothing / WoodworkingDepartments, and Community EmploymentServices.Developmental Services Area (D.S.A.)D.S.A. program employees work with eachclient individually and / or in small groupsto develop their abilities and assist them tohave more meaningful participation in theircommunity, inclusive of work. December 2009 - Apple Valley Scoop- 41THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMASby Clement Clarke Mooreor Henry Livingston‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the houseAnd then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roofNot a creature was stirring, not even a mouse; The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there; The children were nestled all snug in their beds,While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads; And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,Had just settled down for a long winter’s nap,When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.Away to the window I flew like a flash,Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash. The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snowGave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer,With a little old driver, so lively and quick,I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;“Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen! On, Comet! on Cupid! on, Donder and Blitzen! To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall! Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!”As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too.The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.As I drew in my hand, and was turning around,Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound. He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack. His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry! His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry! His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow; The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath; He had a broad face and a little round belly,That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly. He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread; He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,And laying his finger aside of his nose,And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,And away they all flew like the down of a thistle. But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night.”

42 - Apple Valley Scoop - December 2009The Law of AttractionImagine, Beleive, Create and ReceiveThe Ryan SistersStories of Inspirationusing theLaw of Attraction:From a 5 x 5 cubicle to livingthe dream!I worked in the corporate world for yearsand always dreamed of leaving the “corporatelife” and pursuing my dream of sharing ourmusic and words with the world. Somehowwhen you get pulled into the vortex of thecorporate world, days, months and yearsseem to go by in a blink. Your dreams seemto slowly fade away with all the meetings, spreadsheets, statistics, and countless emailsand work overload. I worked all day in a5 x 5 cubicle in a 20 story building wherepeople filed in one by one in the morningwith the same blank look in their eyes, ateat their desk for lunch, were too busy forcoffee breaks, nodded to each other in thehallways and then at the end of the day, thestress of the day seemed to drain us all fromour vitality and we could not wait to see thelight from the main doorway to take us hometo our families. Sunday nights were alwaysthe worst, and I had the “Sunday doom andgloom”, my body was trying to tell me thatwhat I was doing was not fulfilling my souland I would feel a knot in my stomach eachSunday night. One day Lauretta said thatshe had a movie that her boss asked theirstaff to watch. It was called “The Secret”.After we watched the movie, we were bothin tears. Lauretta really connected with theMiracle Man’s story as it was so similar to herown story when she was recovering fromGuillain-Barré Syndrome. I felt so inspiredafter watching this movie as it combinedin an hour and a half all of the books thatI had read since I began my journey oflearning the power of positive thinking andvisualizations which started in the early 90’s.I was excited and optimistic again. The moviegave me a renewed sense that I had not feltin many years. I can be the person I wantto be and I can do what I love to do, it’s allup to me!! I felt in a sense that I was rebornagain, by changing my thoughts I couldchange my reality!! I watched “The Secret”every Sunday night for about year to keepuplifted and motivated. While working atmy corporate job Lauretta and I were writingsongs and recording in Arizona with ourtalented producer and co-writer, Everett RossHarwood, and keeping the faith. Throughthe Law of Attraction, we were introduced toJo Blankenburg who wrote one of the themesongs to “Survivor” and is an internationallyacclaimed composer. He enhanced our song“There’s A Secret” and gave it the signatureorchestral sound!During this year my corporate job wasgetting increasingly more stressful with lessand less staff to give the customers the qualityservice that they came to expect. I developeda condition called GERD - GastroesophagealReflux Disease, this is an illness that makesyou feel like you are having a heart attackas the pain in your chest is so severe. WhenI first went to the doctor I thought I washaving an angina attack, but after a diagnosiswith my symptoms, I had GERD. I askedmy doctor what are some of the causes ofGERD and my doctor told me a big one isSTRESS! This made so much sense to meas my chest pain would frequently happenwhile I was sitting at my desk working away. This continued for about 6 months and wasnot getting any better even with an influxof pills and dietary changes. My soul waswhispering to me in many ways to move onand start over with the life I was meant tolive. When I was not getting any better andthe stress wasn’t lifting I decided I had to takeaction. I knew that thoughts can change myreality, so I decided to use these principles tohelp me change to a career that I would lovegetting up on Monday mornings and feel joyand bliss instead of dread and despair!I took the time and wrote out what exactlyI wanted for a career. I decided to that Iwanted a career that would inspire others andhelp them live the life of their dreams and aswell be able to sing our music. I had no ideaat the time how I was going to do this, but Iput in my order and had absolute faith that itwould be presented to me in some way by theUniverse. I created a vision board with all ofthe things that I wanted in my life. I started agratitude list each morning on the 40 minutecommute to work that I did daily to help givemy day a fresh start and beginning in a stateof gratitude. I found as many things as I couldin my present job that I was grateful for, as Iknew that when you are grateful for what youpresently have, more good things will cometo you! Soon after Lauretta and I went to visitmy parents in Moncton and the Universe sentus our sign that we were looking for! Whileat Chapters, at the exact same time, weboth held up a new book that we never sawbefore called Law of Attraction, The Scienceof Getting More of What You Want And LessOf What You Don’t, and we each said “lookwhat I found”!, and we took that as a definitesign that we were to read this book. Laurettamentioned to me that the author was givingcertification training to become fully certifiedto teach the Law of Attraction. I instantlyknew that my prayers were answered andthat the Universe had presented somethingto me that would change my life. We wenthome and did a Google search on the courseand we jumped on a plane and one weeklater we were fully certified to teach theLaw of Attraction. This training gave us themeans to incorporate our inspirational musicand teach and inspire people to learn howto live the life of their dreams! I resignedfrom my corporate position knowing thatremoving the stress would remove mygastrointestinal problems and I had faiththat my new training was the key to my newlife! I decided to follow my bliss, live the Lawof Attraction and take the baby steps that Ineeded to take to recreate my life and mycareer. We are now teaching the Law ofAttraction and combine our motivationalsongs with our Mind, Body, Spirit workshopsto inspire men and women to find their joyand live with passion! Powerful forces cometogether when you take the steps to changeyour thoughts, live in a state of gratitude, decide what you want to do, be, or have inthis life, and give these positive attention! What EVERYHome/BusinessNEEDS.Shawn ButlerWhat a simple smoke detectorcan do for you:Every year thousands of lives are lost dueto fires in the home and workplace. In theUnited States or in Canada, the results arepretty much the same. In a fire, smoke anddeadly gases tend to spread faster and fartherthan heat. That’s one reason why mostfire victims die from inhalation of smokeand toxic gases, not as a result of burns. Amajority of fatal fires happen when familiesare asleep because occupants are unawareof the fire until there is not adequate time toescape. One thing that I found shocking wasto find out that we cannot smell smoke whilewe are sleeping. Most smoke detectors are on guard 24hours a day. You can have 2 types; eitherbattery operated ones or wired directly toa power source in your home. We mustmaintain the batteries are changed every9-12 months. When the smoke detectorstarts beeping they can upset people andcause them to remove the batteries withoutreplacing them right away. A smoke detectoris designed to make a loud shrilling soundwhen there is smoke or high heat. When afire is first detected, you need a smoke detectorthat works and to be able to hear it. It isdesigned to allow a family the precious, butlimited time it takes to escape. So it’s veryimportant to wake up if you hear the alarm. Why should I have MonitoredSmoke Detector?24 hours a day 365 days a year, yourmonitored smoke detector is ready for you.Home & Business Security AlarmsNew Systems & UpgradesLife style events pagingClosed Circuit TV24 Hr MonitoringTwo-Way VoiceMedical PendantLow Voltage pre-wiringCable, Phone, Entertainment & Security WiringFree Estimates & Previewing at Construction stageA monitored smoke detector is much louderwith a siren and less sensitive than a normalsmoke detector.
