There he wasrecruited to perform at a ScottishCastle in Japan!The class clown in primary school,one of his earliest stage appearanceswas in grade five, as Prince Charmingin Sleeping Beauty. Willy arrivedon stage with his modified tricyclehorse,purposefully tipping it over.The audience roared with laughter,and Willy’s career as clown waswell and truly born.After receiving his BA in Drama fromBishop’s University in Quebec, Willytaught drama for three years, thenmoved out to Western Canada andjoined a traveling performance troupe.An award-winning, multi-lingualperformer, The Willy Show has beenfeatured at many different venuesthroughout Japan and Canada.WORKSHOPSFAug 24 @ 3 pmWORKSHOP TENT | FREELILIONA QUARMYNEDance artist Liliona Quarmynehas worked across Canada andinternationally, including performingwith Compagnie Danse Nyata Nyata;dancing with MamaDances; andcreating with Diane Roberts throughthe Arrivals Process. Liliona iscurrently showing her new pieceTide, developing another piece,teaching dance for the AntigonishCreative Dance Associationand for her own organizationGenerations in Motion, andcoordinating programs for theTatamagouche Centre. Liliona seesher body as a link to past and tofuture generations, and uses it tocreate art that is unconventional,provocative, and grounded.AAug 24 @ 1 pmALDERNEY LANDING THEATRE | FREENOVA BHATTACHARYAPRISMATIC ARTS FESTIVAL <strong>2014</strong>35Nova Bhattacharya creates powerfuland humanistic dance works. Shehas performed works by manyacclaimed creators including:Peggy Baker, José Navas, and MikaKurosawa. Critics have said Nova is“adept at transforming bharatanatyamdance vocabulary into stunningcontemporary dance” (Globe & Mail).In 2008 she established Nova Dance,the company’s productions andeducational programs have beenpresented from coast to coast inCanada, Germany, and Japan andhave garnered five Dora MavorMoore Award nominations. NovaDance is committed to nurturingthe upcoming generation. Throughinternships, one-on-one mentoring,and contract engagements thecompany contributes to the artisticand professional development ofemerging artists. Bhattacharyawas the 2012 recipient of the VictorMartyn Lynch Staunton Award foroutstanding artistic achievementin dance and a 2003 ChalmersFellowship recipient. She is thePresident of the Toronto ArtsCouncil and a board member ofthe Toronto Arts Foundation.
