PRISMATIC ARTS FESTIVAL <strong>2014</strong>AWednesday, Aug 20 @ 9:30 am – 5 pmALDERNEY LANDING39ATLANTIC NETWORK OF ARTISTS ROUNDTABLEThe <strong>Prismatic</strong> Arts Festival and Onelight Theatre arepleased to announce that we have secured a grantfrom the Canada Council’s Equity Office to explore thepotential formation of an artist network serving culturallydiverse (visible minority), Aboriginal, deaf, and disabilityarts communities from the Atlantic region.We are currently trying to engage as many individualsfrom these communities as possible in a consultationprocess. If you are a professional artist or arts professional(arts manager, administrator, presenter, curator, teacher,etc.) from one of the targeted communities, please joinus for a day-long community consultation meeting onthe proposed network.The objectives of this first consultation meeting are to:• ascertain the level of interest and demand for a networkor association that would link and serve diverse artistsacross the region,• determine community needs and priorities, particularlyin the areas of networking and professional development,• brainstorm potential models for the proposed network,• create a space for diverse artists from the Atlanticprovinces to meet one another and share their experiencesand aspirations.In anticipation of the consultation meeting, artistsand arts professionals from the designated communitiesare asked to complete an on-line survey at:www.surveymonkey.com/s/WZL8G3SFor more information on the consultation meeting,please contact Karen Tisch at karen.tisch@gmail.com.A limited number of travel subsidies are available fornon-Halifax residents.IThursday, Aug 21 @ 9:30 am – 12 pmLIBRARYPRISMATIC CONFERENCE: SESSION 1Looking Back and Moving ForwardSince the early 90s, when diverse artistic communitiescame together to advocate for increased arts funding,opportunities and recognition, culturally diverse andAboriginal artists have become an ever-growing forcein the Canadian arts sector. This discussion will focuson how the experience of diverse arts practitioners hasshifted over the years, the changes that have occurred inthe arts ecology surrounding their work, and the ongoingchallenges and opportunities faced by equity-seekingartists in the current environment.
