<strong>ACCT6014</strong> <strong>Designing</strong> <strong>Accounting</strong> <strong>Systems</strong><strong>Business</strong> <strong>Project</strong> ProposalThe University of Sydney <strong>Business</strong> SchoolWhat is <strong>ACCT6014</strong> <strong>Designing</strong> <strong>Accounting</strong> <strong>Systems</strong>?This post graduate unit introduces students to the concepts of accounting information systemsdesign and equips them with industry-standard capabilities and skills in the analysis,evaluation, selection and deployment of packaged accounting system software solutions suchas SAP and MyOB.What is the <strong>Business</strong> <strong>Project</strong> component of the course?As a part of the learning and assessment, students are required to carry out a project as agroup of around 4 or 5 students. This applied project involves investigation of a real lifeaccounting system in a business organization and submission of a business report on theanalysis, enterprise modeling and design of a workable accounting system. This businessreport must give a detailed description of the software solution including the design of generalledger, chart of accounts, account payable, accounts receivable and cost accountingprocesses and data transactions and production of financial and management accountingreports and statements.What is involved as business project supporter?As a business project supporter your organisation will provide around 4-6 hours of a seniormanager’s time over a period of 6 weeks (weeks 4-9 with approximately a 1 hour maximumtime per session) to answer questions about the company’s accounting system and processes.This meeting can take place at the workplace or on campus.What about confidentiality?In order to protect the confidentiality of the organization and its processes, transactions andelements, information presented in the report will not contain any identity of the organization. Ifnecessary, the students and the lecturer will sign a confidentiality agreement with theparticipating organization.How will your support benefit the students and teaching of <strong>ACCT6014</strong>?This project will not only give students an opportunity to apply the concepts and tools learnedin this course and improve their learning, but also provides the business organization aninvaluable support in their accounting information system design and improvementsendeavours without expensive consulting engagements. By providing access to the studentsfor this project, you will not only be helping them/us achieve the learning outcomes, but alsomeeting the accreditation requirements of professional accounting bodies. If required, studentswill submit a copy of the report to the participating organization.


How will the students be prepared for the meetings?The lecturer will prepare and give a document to students with a series ofquestions/topics/issues on which they are required to collect information from companies tomeet the requirements.
