This requirment has been in effectsince the early 1990s in Northumberland County. The reason thatclear and clear blue bags were chosen for the recycling stream wasso residents and the collection drivers would associate recyclingwith the colour blue (similar to the blue box). Another reason istransparency: collection crews must be able to quickly see thecontents of recycling bags to determine whether they are in factrecyclable or not.Clear or clear blue bags are available for purchase in all localgrocery and hardware stores.EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT HAZARDOUS WASTE?Disposal of Household Hazardous Waste is free toresidents of Northumberland County.
