Message from the Presidentand the Executive DirectorWhat makes hospice care so different, so special,and so meaningful? Compassion is the one wordwe hear constantly from our patients and theirfamily members. Webster defines compassionas a “sympathetic concern for the suffering ofanother, together with the inclination to give aidor support.” Everything we do at Talbot Hospiceembraces compassion – whether it’s dropping offequipment to a Pathways patient, sitting downto talk with a hospice family in their home, orcaring for a patient in one of the rooms in theGuest Wing. Compassion is the common threadfor everyone involved - staff, volunteers and boardmembers alike. We help individuals live with hopeand purpose even in the midst of a terminal illness.The dedication of our staff and volunteers hasbeen unfailing over our 27 year history. We areproud to say that this past year, 100% of our board members, and the management and program staffswere donors to the Foundation. What a great accolade to the Foundation to not only have their timecommitment but also their financial backing. We all feel honored to be in a position where we can make adifference in the lives we touch each and every day.This past year, from July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008, we served a record number of 69 individuals in ourGuest Wing, a 23% increase over the previous year. Additionally, we had and continue to have a constantwaiting list - all signs that Talbot County’s senior population is increasing dramatically. Overall, demandfor our hospice services in homes, in nursing homes and in residential facilities increased 8% from lastyear, continuing the upward trend. We are dedicated to meeting this challenge through careful strategicplanning by our board and staff.Talbot Hospice represents the very best of our community from our compassionate staff and volunteersto our donors who, together, help ensure our mission. We are financially dependent upon the generosityof our community and because you have responded with your donations, memorials and in-kind gifts,Talbot Hospice is proud to continue to provide premier end-of-life care and support at no charge to ourpatients and their families.
