S1 NewsIt has been an exciting few weeks in S1. Our new First Years have settled very well into life at <strong>All</strong> <strong>Saints</strong>.Teachers have been very impressed with the excellent manners and positive attitude of the young people.On 6 September we celebrated the arrival of S1 to <strong>All</strong> <strong>Saints</strong> with a dedicated mass. This was a joyouscelebration, led by pupils, in our local church. Arrangements are already underway for the Fire ReachProgramme led by Calton Fire Station. This will involve all S1 pupilsvisiting the fire station and participating in workshops to improveknowledge and safety.In school S1 have been getting involved in the extra curricular activitieswe have available. There was a number of S1 pupils involved inour choir for the annual awards ceremony which took place on 18thSeptember. There are also a large number of S1 pupils attending Art,drama and PE at lunchtimes. First Year have made an excellent startin <strong>All</strong> <strong>Saints</strong> and I look forward to watching their journey over theyear ahead.There will be an S1 Supporting Evening onMonday 26th November between 7pm & 8pm.<strong>All</strong> parents are warmly invited to attend.S Richford S1 Year HeadJohn Muir Activity Days<strong>All</strong> of last year’s S1 have been working ontheir John Muir Award over the course ofthe year. They have been out eachWednesday afternoon for a 4 weekperiod going to Robroyston Park tolearn about the nature reserve, litterpicking, digging, planting and weedingat Lambhill Stables and helping out atHamiltonhill <strong>All</strong>otments.In order to get their John Muir Awardthe young people had to spend a furthertwo days outdoors so that is what thewhole of S1 did over the course oftwo weeks.1A-1C went out on 6th & 7th Juneand 1D-1F went out 13th & 14th June toRobroyston Park to work on a number of activitiesin partnership with Glasgow Life!The young people were able totake part in: shelter building, arts& crafts, mountain biking,rugby teambuilding, ponddipping,hill walking andorienteering. The weather wasnot particularly kind to theyoung people but this certainlydidn't dampen the spirits of S1 asthey took on every challenge withgreat enthusiasm and resilience.Their fantastic behaviour, positiveattitude and 100% commitment toachieving all they could from the twodays outdoors was truly amazingand very impressive.Congratulations to all S1 for theirinvolvement in the John Muir Activity days.M MarlinSt Mungo’s Museum Visit-S1Some of our S1 pupils recently visited St Mungo’s museum where they participated in aworkshop exploring sectarianism and discussed what they could do as young people to changethings.
