It isdesigned for data-intensive applicationsthat demand increased connectivityprovided by eight 4 Gbps hostchannels designed to provide up to1724 MBps of sustained bandwidth forhigh-throughput applications throughthe eight channels directly attached tothe host servers or connected to aFibre Channel storage areanetwork (SAN).Designed to help lower your Total Cost ofOwnership (TCO)The IBM System Storage DS4800 diskstorage system offers customers a4 Gbps SAN solution to take advantage

of the performance offered by 4 Gbpstechnology. There are two ways tomeasure performance of an SANdevice: Megabytes per second (MBps)and input/output per second (IOPS).The IBM DS4800 4 Gbps SAN producthas very impressive performancenumbers. It is designed to offer up to1724 MBps throughput with upto 575,000 IOPS. A 2 Gbps storagearray can require up to twice as manyhost ports as a 4 Gbps array to deliverthe throughput of four 4 Gbps ports. This frees up ports in the SAN for eacharray. On the host side, if a server requiresmore than two 2 Gbps host busadapters (HBAs) to attain the requiredperformance (a server should have atleast two HBAs for availability), thenthat number can be halved with4 Gbps. Fewer HBAs help lower thenumber of switch ports used and canhelp reduce overall cost.Business continuityIBM System Storage DS4800 disk storagesystem offers the latest innovationfrom IBM in storage infrastructure performanceand management, helping toenable you to develop storage environmentsthat can deliver unprecedenteddata availability.
