HELICOPTERS AND PINK GOLF BALLS
AT THE VOLKOWITSCH GOLF OPEN
A sea of pink covered Apple Creek Golf Course in Bismarck on May 21
during the second annual Volkowitsch Golf Open. The tournament,
organized by Ryan Volk and Loren Balkowitsch of Bismarck, was held in
memory of Missy Balkowitsch, who battled breast cancer for a number
of years.
A sold-out tournament of 144 golfers enjoyed a day of wacky
challenges at each of the 18 holes, including putting around animal

STRIKING OUT CANCER
Hometown rivals had a great time at the Washington Street diamond
in April! The Bismarck Cancer Center Foundation was the recipient of
funds raised during “Striking Out Cancer,” a double-header fundraiser
of the BHS/CHS baseball teams on April 25, 2011. Both teams wore
pink, and each team member found a $50 sponsor for his jersey.
Pink t-shirts were also sold at the game. BCCF hosted a booth at the
games with educational items and giveaways. Our deepest thanks goes
to these community-oriented youth!

Thank you to pilot Monte Meyers and Barry Schafer for dropping
800 pink golf balls.
decoys,putting with a pool cue, teeing off with a six-foot
driver, and more. At the end of the day, a helicopter dropped
800 pink golf balls for a raffle. Winners were Tori Rittenbach
with the closest ball to the pin, and Lonnie Lindteigen who had
the ticket for the ball that landed farthest from the pin.
A big thank you to Loren, Ryan, and the many volunteers for
their spectacular fundraiser. The Volkowitsch Golf Open
donated $14,000 of proceeds to the BCC Foundation and
$10,000 to the National Breast Cancer Research Foundation!

Roger brings to the BCCF Advisory Board 40 years of
experience in public service and non-profit health agency
fund-raising and personnel management, including 17 years
as a senior manager for Personnel and Fund-Raising with the
American Cancer Society, Inc. Additionally, he possesses
8 years of law enforcement training and experience. Roger
and his staff have pioneered Board of Director Governance
Training Programs principally based on the research and
writings of John Carver. Issues related to
succession planning and exiting strategies
for senior executives and/or board members
are specifically integrated into these
presentations.
