RJT contributes to the development offundamental motor skills such as running, jumping, and throwing through a seriesof lessons that focus on skill acquisition, sport education and participatory/team<strong>com</strong>petition. The program is designed to give children a strong background insport skills that will serve them well in other sports and throughout their lives. Nomatter what sport of physical endeavour children attempt in their lifetime, themechanics of running, jumping, and/or throwing will inevitably <strong>com</strong>e into play.The RJT Instructor Course trains Instructors to developfundamental motor skills such as running, jumping and throwingin children ages 7 through 12. Following the course Instructorswill be able to:‣ Plan a practice‣ Use progressions to teach fundamental motor skills to children‣ Understand and apply the progressions used to teach basictrack and field skills‣ Apply <strong>Run</strong>, <strong>Jump</strong>, <strong>Throw</strong> activities to all sport programs(soccer, basketball, etc)‣ Coach grassroots track and field athletes in a track club orschool program. The course gives educators all the toolsnecessary to teach children the fundamentals of running,


jumping and throwing as well as introducing them to track andfield.‣ Work as a <strong>Run</strong>, <strong>Jump</strong>, <strong>Throw</strong> Instructor‣ Everyone in the course gets great course materials! Thecourse materials provide lesson plans for working with childrenincluding adaptations for disabled children. A DVD is providedthat demonstrates all the techniques and drills covered in thecourse.‣ Learn about the Ottawa Lions <strong>Run</strong> <strong>Jump</strong> <strong>Throw</strong> program thathas over 500 participants per year.Location:OttawaTerry fox Athletic Facility - Mooney’s Bay Park,Date: May 3 rd - 6 th , 2013Time: Friday: 6-9:30, Saturday: 8:30-12:30Sunday: 9-3:30Costs:$232.00 Course FeeAttendance at weekend course required. $35 lateregistration fee after 4 pm April 27 th$158.00 Course Fee (Students, Members of the OttawaLions)Attendance at weekend course required is required. $35 lateregistration fee after 4 pm April 27 th$158.00 Course Fee (certified teachers)Attendance on Friday and Saturday only.
