New fan configuration brings optimised operating costsUp to 61 % reduction in power consumptionBenefits from new unit configuration and component optimisationRepositioning the fan into the raised floor reduces static regain losses andsave up to 61 % of power consumption when compared to a conventionalchilled water system. Larger filter surface areas with reduced pressure dropspermit longer maintenance intervals. A large, high performance 6-rowcooling coil, manufactured by GEA, has been optimised by our engineersto give minimal pressure drops. The design gives the choice of very highduties at standard water temperatures or even greater efficiencies atelevated water temperatures. All components within the water circuit, suchas cooling coil, valves and pipework have been specifically designed andselected for the minimum possible waterside pressure drops. Because thefans in this configuration only pull air over the unit the main cabinet isnot under pressure. This leads to increased air tightness and reducedpossibility of air leakage. Service access exclusively from the front of theunit ensures simple maintenance procedures.Saving potential by optimised operation costsPower consumption(kWh/a)100,00090,00080,00070,00060,00050,00040,00030,00020,00010,0000Standard unit Ultra Denco ®■ Power consumption for fans■ Additional refrigeration requirementCost savings by GEA Ultra-Denco ®(Operation Costs in € )Current AdditionalYear Std. 1) duty 2) Ultra-Denco ®1 9,093 1,643 4,1632 18,186 3,286 8,3263 27,279 4,928 12,4884 36,372 6,571 16,6515 45,464 8,214 20,8146 54,557 9,857 24,9777 63,650 11,500 29,1398 72,743 13,142 33,3029 81,836 14,785 37,46510 90,929 16,428 41,628107,357 41,628Savings overconventional unit: 61.23%1)Fan duty2)For cooling, as a result of higher fan power (EER CHILLER: 3,0)09/2010 – PR-2010-0041-GB · Subject to modification

With the ever increasing load demands inbuildings, even in comfort applications, a free cooling chiller can be a mosteffective choice. Depending on the local climate conditions, the use of a freecooling, as opposed to a standard chiller can lead to very short paybacktimes.Chillers with free-cooling functionCooling duty from 30 to 380 kW for systemswith up to 4 scroll compressors, and from 300to 1,250 kW for machines with screw compressors.A master/slave control system from GEA enablescommunications among up to 5 units, whichallows retrofitting to achieve greater requiredcooling duties. The higher the water temperatures the more energy efficient the operationof the chiller. Using higher water temperatures also allows the changeoverto free cooling to be made earlier and remove the need for compressoroperation. Common flow and return water temperatures for chillers are6 °C and 12 °C. But if these temperatures are increased to 10 °C and 15 °Cthen the chiller will operate much more efficiently than at the lowertemperatures. In addition when using higher water temperatures, becausefree cooling will already have started at an outdoor temperature of 14 °Cand not at 11 °C as is the case with standard chiller operation, additionalenergy saving benefits can be enjoyed.09/2010 – PR-2010-0041-GB · Subject to modification
