The completed petition <strong>and</strong> any <strong>and</strong> allappropriate documentation (e.g. unofficialtranscripts, verifications of experience,etc.) must be filed no later than 10 workingdays before a semester or session beginswith the office of Admissions.3. The petition will be processed within 10working days of its receipt, <strong>and</strong> the studentwill be notified accordingly.4. If the petition is found <strong>to</strong> be justified, <strong>and</strong>no space is available in the course at thetime the petition is filed, the student shallbe permitted <strong>to</strong> enroll for the next term.Enrollment will be permitted only if space isavailable when the student registers for thesubsequent semester, or summer session.5. In the event the petition is denied, thestudent may appeal the decision onthe completion petition <strong>to</strong> the Dean ofAdmissions <strong>and</strong> the challenge petition <strong>to</strong>the Dean of Academic Affairs (G1 207).6. Notification of the appeal decision willbe sent <strong>to</strong> the student within five workingdays after its receipt by the Office ofAdmissions or Academic Affairs.Unit LoadThe normal class load for full-time studentsin the Fall or Spring semester is from 12 <strong>to</strong>18 units per semester. Students who will beemployed while attending college should reducetheir programs accordingly. A collegeprogram of 15 units is equivalent <strong>to</strong> at least a50 hour work week for most students. A studentwho desires <strong>to</strong> take more than 18 unitsmust obtain approval from a counselor in E1Building.Programs that Require aMinimum Number of Units• International Students:12 units• Student Body Officers: Day 9 units,Evening, 6 units• Athletes:12 units including a PhysicalEducation course or courses• Social Security Program: 6 units• EOPS Students:12 units• Financial Aid Students: At least 6 units<strong>College</strong> CatalogThe current college catalog is available in the<strong>College</strong> Books<strong>to</strong>re, online <strong>and</strong> Fiscal Office.Classes Open <strong>to</strong> the PublicIt is the policy of the District that, unless specificallyexempted by statute, every course,course section or class, the average daily attendanceof which is <strong>to</strong> be reported for stateaid, wherever offered <strong>and</strong> maintained bythe District, shall be fully opened <strong>to</strong> enrollment<strong>and</strong> participation by any person whohas been admitted <strong>to</strong> the college(s) <strong>and</strong> whomeets such prerequisites as may be establishedpursuant <strong>to</strong> Chapter 2, Division2, Part IV, Title 5 of the California Code ofRegulations, commencing with Section 51820(Adopted by Board action April 6, 1977).Classes Subject <strong>to</strong> ChangeThe <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong> Community <strong>College</strong>District <strong>and</strong> <strong>East</strong> <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong> <strong>College</strong> havemade every reasonable effort <strong>to</strong> determinethat everything stated in this class scheduleis accurate. Courses <strong>and</strong> programs offered,<strong>to</strong>gether with other matters containedherein, are subject <strong>to</strong> change without noticeby the administration of the <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong>Community <strong>College</strong> District or <strong>East</strong> <strong>Los</strong><strong>Angeles</strong> <strong>College</strong> for reasons related <strong>to</strong> studentenrollment, level of financial support,or for any other reason, at the discretion ofthe District <strong>and</strong> the <strong>College</strong>. The District <strong>and</strong>the <strong>College</strong> further reserve the right <strong>to</strong> add,amend, or repeal any of their rules, regulations,policies, <strong>and</strong> procedures.Privacy Act/Students’ RightsCongress has provided in the “FamilyEducation Rights <strong>and</strong> Privacy Act” that studentshave certain rights.• Right <strong>to</strong> inspect <strong>and</strong> review their educationalrecords.• Right <strong>to</strong> request amendment of recordsa students believes <strong>to</strong> be inaccurate ormisleading.• Right <strong>to</strong> consent <strong>to</strong> disclosure of personallyidentifiable information from educationrecords by an educational agency orinstitution.• Education records <strong>and</strong> direc<strong>to</strong>ry information(address, telephone number) may bedisclosed <strong>to</strong> school officials (administra<strong>to</strong>r,faculty <strong>and</strong> staff) without prior consent,unless a student wishes <strong>to</strong> refuse the releaseof direc<strong>to</strong>ry information.• Under federal law, the military is entitled <strong>to</strong>receive direc<strong>to</strong>ry information for recruitingpurposes. A student can refuse the releaseof direc<strong>to</strong>ry information by completing a“Release of Direc<strong>to</strong>ry Information” form <strong>and</strong>submitting it <strong>to</strong> the Admissions Office.• The <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong> Community <strong>College</strong>District is committed <strong>to</strong> protecting studentprivacy <strong>and</strong> currently uses collection <strong>and</strong>s<strong>to</strong>rage systems <strong>to</strong> eliminate the use of socialsecurity numbers as the primary methodof student identification.Grading <strong>and</strong>Academic St<strong>and</strong>ardsCredit/No-CreditThe grade of CR (credit) will be given if thestudent’s performance in class is equal <strong>to</strong>a “C” grade or better. The grade of “NCR”(no credit) will be given if the performancein class is equal <strong>to</strong> a “D” or “FAIL” grade.Students may petition only those classeslisted in the Catalog on a Credit/No Creditbasis by the deadline date (see class schedulecalendar).Once a student’s petition <strong>to</strong> take a courseon a Credit/No Credit has been approved,the student is not permitted <strong>to</strong> receive aletter grade in the approved course. Thesymbol CR or NCR must appear on thestudent’s permanent transcript for thatcourse.“Credit/No-Credit” <strong>and</strong> “Creditby Examination” courses are listed in the<strong>College</strong> Catalog.Credit By ExaminationThe <strong>College</strong> President may designate coursesin the <strong>College</strong> Catalog which a studentmay challenge if the student meets the followingrequirements:a. Currently enrolled with a minimum cumulativegrade-point average of 2.0.b. Completed 12 units of coursework withinthe <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong> Community <strong>College</strong>District.c. Not currently enrolled in, or have completed,a more advanced course in thatdiscipline.d. The maximum number of units for whicha student may petition for credit by examinationat the <strong>College</strong> shall be 15 units.Grade Request ProceduresStudents will be able <strong>to</strong> receive informationon their grades through the StudentInformation System on-line. If you needa copy of your grades, you can obtain aone semester grade prin<strong>to</strong>ut from the internet.This prin<strong>to</strong>ut is NOT a Transcrip<strong>to</strong>r a Verification of Enrollment. If you needan Official Transcript or a Verification ofEnrollment, you may order them from theAdmissions Office.IncompleteAn “INC” (incomplete) must be made up bythe deadline established by the instruc<strong>to</strong>r.The deadline may not be any later than oneyear following the end of the term in which itwas assigned.Scholarship St<strong>and</strong>ardsA student is expected <strong>to</strong> maintain at least a“C” average (2.0 grade point average on a4.0 scale).12
