As a two-year residential college, it bridges the gap between high schooland the four-year schools by offering quality academic programming, as well as nationally-recognizedathletic programs. Classes are small, with an average class size of 16, allowing students to receive theattention that will help them excel.Alumni support Louisburg College because the college helped to transform their lives. They knowtheir gifts influence young minds, impact young athletes, and benefit the school and surroundingcommunity. As the first in his family to attend college, Don Fish came to Louisburg College andencountered freshman anxiety. When this happened, Don packed his bags and wenthome. Within an hour, Walter McDonald, head of the Religion Department, pulled upin front of his house. McDonald spent the next several hours convincing Don that heneeded to return to Louisburg.Don did return, and went on to graduate. He continued his education and graduatedfrom the University of North Carolina. He took an entry level position at Liggett Groupand rose to V.P. of Marketing before retiring.“I can’t imagine where I’d be today withoutDon Fish ‘60that life changing event,” says Don. “The people at Louisburg wouldn’t let me give up.”Both of Don’s daughters attended Louisburg, and now Don gives back to the college as a member of the Board ofTrustees. His hope and goal is to give as many young people as he can the same opportunity he received. As the first in my family to attend college, and strapped with the knowledge thatI would have to finance my own education, I was quite uncertain where to attendschool - or even if I would. One day in high school, I visited the campus with friendsthat were already accepted to Louisburg. I fell in love with the campus. I filled out myapplication that day. However, I still had to finance this education, and so I spoke withthe financial aid officer. Imagine my surprise and gratitude when I received notice thatI was accepted to the college and would be given the Presidential Scholarship. But,Lisa Minton Robert ‘90 the financial support and assistance did not stop there. When I arrived on campus, desperately needing some form of work to pay for books, I was given the wonderfulopportunity to work with Dr. Sidney Stafford in the Chaplain’s office as part of the work study program. Aftergraduating from Louisburg College, I went on to NCSU to obtain my BS in Civil Engineering. Today, I ammember of the leadership team and a Principal at Mulkey Engineers & Consultants. I reflect sometimes on all thegood fortune that God has given me, and I know without hesitation that he put Louisburg in my path for manyreasons. Without the support and assistance from all the staff at Louisburg, I know that I would have never goneto college and would not be able to give back now.Lisa gives back as a member of the Louisburg College Board of Trustees.Louisburg College is perfect for me because of the small class sizes and the caring facultyand staff. It is a great college community. Here, we can take advantage of many serviceopportunities, both on campus and in the surrounding communities. As an activemember of the Christian Life Council, it seems that there is a service project everymonth. My Freshman Seminar class also presented many ways to volunteer at localorganizations, such as Boys and Girls Club, Habitat for Humanity, and the local nursinghomes. I believe that service is a great way to get involved on campus.Vance Harrell ‘08 Through scholarships, alumni and donors of Louisburg College are really helpingme reach my full potential, and are making it possible for me to reach my goals.
