This will have an impact on the type, and number,of windows needed. We would always recommend a minimumof 20% glazed area to floor space.IN A LOFT SCENARIOThere are a number of daylightsolutions available for loft conversions.Simply think about your roof pitchand roofing material. Then considerthe size and shape of your loft space.This will help you decide how manywindows you need to install andwhere to put them. Before you beginconstruction, think about where youwant the light to fall in the room.Above a desk, perhaps? Make sureyou position your windows in thebest possible place to achieve whatyou need.FOR OPEN CEILINGSFor ceilings that slope to the roofline,there are limitless combinations forcreating your own light filled room.You simply choose the type ofwindows you want and decide whereyou want to put them. It’s worthconsidering what kind of light youwant before you start construction.Strong, variable light throughoutthe day? Position your windowon a South-facing roof. Constant,indirect light – perhaps for a homeoffice? Place your window on aNorth-sloping facing roof.InspirationWINDOWSWorking out what kind of light is right.A South-facing window will capture the most sunlightduring the day (morning and afternoon). Whereas aNorth-facing window will receive no direct sunlightat all – but it will still capture a constant weaker lightthroughout the day.
