Dear Friends of DCCRoger Smith,Chairman, DCCFoundationAs this year's Annual Report reflects, 2008 was aterrific year for the Foundation. Not only was ita successful fundraising year, but it was a yearfilled with 50th Anniversary activities. As the College finishedits first half-century of service to Dutchess County,we can reflect on the many lives that have been changedfor the better by DCC. Almost 40,000 people have graduated, countless others have sought training and thousandshave begun their educational journey here. The 50th Anniversary helped us set new highs in contributionsand grant revenue, and our Annual Fund had its bestyear ever. The special events we sponsored were tremendousincluding our 50th Anniversary Gala that engaged theentire community and raised needed funds for our students.Despite the disappointing drop in the stock market and inour endowment during the last months of the year, throughthe success of our fundraising and special events we willbe able to provide scholarships to our acclaimed ConklinScholars and financially needy students; furnish grants tofaculty and staff for special projects vital to College activities;and finance equipment, technology and campus improvements. These are essentialgoals for which funding is notavailable from any other source.I want to thank the members ofthe Foundation Board of Directorsfor their never-ceasing workand study on behalf of the College.Very special thanks to TrishPrunty, our executive director, and her very capable andhard-working staff. Dr. D. David Conklin, our College President, contributes greatly to the success of the Foundationand to all fundraising and special events. A special thanksgoes out to him.Scholarships, grants, technology, faculty projects and campusimprovements are never-ending needs and we knowwe can count on the continued participation of DutchessCounty and Hudson Valley citizens. Together, despitethe difficult times, we shall attain the goals which are sodesirable and essential for students, faculty and the entirecommunity.2008 ANNUAL REPORT3 3
