Like thelarger OPV 270, it features analuminium hull guaranteeing bothlow maintenance and low operatingand upkeep costs.The basic version uses conventionaldiesel propulsion with electricpropulsion as an option. The designoffers three weeks' endurance, andwith a pair of fin stabilisers, onboardliving and working conditionsare outstanding.The OPV 190 isdesigned for maritime surveillanceand EEZ patrol missions. Like theOPV 270, it is equipped for SARand firefighting missions and hastwo large davit-launched RHIBs forvessel interception and inspectionoperations.Other features includea panoramic (360°) bridge anda comprehensive sensor suiteincluding radars, electro-opticalsensors and an electronic warfaresuite. Optimised for EEZ surveillance,the new design features a steel hulland aluminium superstructure basedon the proven lines of the shipbuilder'stype P400 patrol vessel, a type highlyregarded for its ruggedness andlongevity. The hullform offers excellentseakeeping in all conditions, includingheavy swells and high winds. The newVigilante offers more space and loadcarryingcapacity than the smallerP400 design, along with excellentendurance thanks to its significantlyreduced fuel consumption. Otherfeatures include high speed, provisionfor two davit-launched 6.5m RHIBs andan aft deck supporting both helicopter(VERTREP) and UAV operations. TheVigilante 700 CL 65 is designed for alltypes of maritime security missions aswell as SAR, intelligence gathering andoperations by special forces. The ship'smodular design can accommodatea powerful combat system includinganti-ship missiles and short-rangeanti-air weapons. The concept's selfdefenceand offensive capabilitieswill be of special interest to countriesfacing border tensions and relatedchallenges.The combat system manages allsensors and weapons and is controlledfrom the dedicated ops room.
