The three year funding allocation will enable the school to provide a rangeof programs that will offer support to students and their families.I would like to introduce to you our School Chaplain, Heidi Burton. Heidi comes to us with a wealth ofexperience in her role. Heidi will be responsible for supporting the spiritual, social and emotionalwellbeing of students regardless of faith or beliefs. The school chaplain will be available each Mondayand Wednesday mornings. Heidi has already commenced her work here at the school and is currentlyin the process of making neighbourhood contacts to establish and coordinate a breakfast programhere at the school.A referral process to access school chaplain support will be established through the school’s learningsupport team. Parental permission for student inclusion in any school chaplain activity or programwill be required. More information on the School Chaplain programs will be provided once they areestablished. The staff and school community can look forward to working in close partnership withHeidi in the future as she offers and provides support to our students here at Tweed Heads PublicSchool.Swimming CarnivalCongratulations to the students who attended last week’s 2013 Swimming Carnival. The managers ofBanora Pools were very complimentary to the staff on the students’ attitudes and behavioursthroughout the event. Well done to all of our students for being great ambassadors for our school. Congratulations to thosetwo students.Well done to all the students who attended.Thank you to all the parents and teachers foryour support.Tobacco Legislation Amendment Act 2012The Tobacco Legislation Amendment Act 2012 amends theSmoke-free Environment Act 2000 and bans smoking in the followingoutdoor public places from 7 January 2013:• Within 10 metres of children’s play equipment in outdoorpublic spaces;• Swimming pool complexes;• Spectator areas at sports grounds or other recreationalareas during organised sporting events;• Railway platforms, light rail stops, light rail stations, busstops, taxi ranks and ferry wharves;• Within 4 metres of a pedestrian access point to a publicbuilding; andFrom 2015, in commercial outdoor dining areas.A range of factsheets explaining the new laws are now availableon the website www.health.nsw.gov.au• Children's outdoor playground equipment• Public swimming pools• Spectator areas at public sports grounds• Public transport stops and stations• Entrance to or exit from a public building• Commercial outdoor dining areasLibrary NewsLibrary Opening Times - <strong>Term</strong> OneEvery lunch time Monday to Friday.Students also visit the library during their allocated library time inclass.
