✥ But <strong>the</strong> devil <strong>the</strong>n saw that when that Child entered Egypt,many <strong>of</strong> its idols fell and were broken. He knew that thatfulfilled <strong>the</strong> prophecy <strong>of</strong> Isaiah which said, "Behold, <strong>the</strong> Lord isriding on a swift cloud and comes to Egypt; <strong>the</strong> idols <strong>of</strong> Egyptwill totter at His presence and <strong>the</strong> heart <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Egyptians willmelt in its midst. " (Is. 19:1). And <strong>the</strong> devil said withinhimself, "No doubt, He is <strong>the</strong> Saviour, <strong>the</strong> Son <strong>of</strong> God".Once more <strong>the</strong> devil became in doubt when he realised that<strong>the</strong> Child returned only after <strong>the</strong> death <strong>of</strong> those who wereseeking His life. He also saw that, “But when he heard thatArchelaus was reigning over Judea instead <strong>of</strong> his fa<strong>the</strong>r Herod,he was afraid to go <strong>the</strong>re. And being warned by God in adream, he turned aside into <strong>the</strong> region <strong>of</strong> Galilee. And he cameand dwelt in a city called Nazareth " (Matt. 2:22,23). What aconfusing situation! "Can anything good come out <strong>of</strong> Nazareth" (John. 1:46). 'No, it cannot be He!' said <strong>the</strong> devil.✥ The devil remained in his doubts till <strong>the</strong> Child was twelveyears <strong>of</strong> age and saw Him sitting among <strong>the</strong> elderly teachers andall who listened to Him were amazed at His understanding. Thedevil heard Jesus answering Mary and Joseph, "Did you notknow that I must be about My Fa<strong>the</strong>r's business ". (Luke. 2:49).The devil <strong>the</strong>n said within himself, 'It must be He. Who elsewill have such wisdom and talk about His Fa<strong>the</strong>r's business!'.When <strong>the</strong> boy submitted himself to Mary and Joseph, <strong>the</strong>devil started to doubt again. How would He yield to <strong>the</strong>mwhile heaven and earth must submit to Him. It cannot be He!What increased his doubts was seeing Jesus Christ living for 18years, (till He was 30 years old), as a simple carpenter with no36
