LAKE MIDDLE SCHOOLclassroom happenings and eventsCamp Y-Noah Visitedby 6th GradersCamp Y-Noah was the site of enjoyable and educationalexperiences for the sixth grade students May 11-13.Although the weather did not cooperate, the rain couldn’tdampen the tremendous enthusiasm the students showedthroughout all the learning experiences during the week.Students participated in such activities as canoeing, pondlife study, archery, horseback riding, outdoor cooking, andowl pellet study. Students were able to dig for bones andother artifacts during archaeology, join together tocomplete activities in teamwork, and bait hooks and catchfish in <strong>Lake</strong> Noah. At night, students competed in a ZooOlympics with animals from the Akron Zoo, learned folksongs with Robin Rich, and showed their ethnic dancemoves.Overheard about camp:Mike Wandling – It was great to get to know people youdidn’t know before.Olivia Drummond – I really enjoyed pond life. You couldsee everything that was in the water that you were unawareof.William Brown – I had never been to camp in my life but itwas the best I will ever go to. The counselors were reallynice.Paige Sommers – I had a good time at SCIDDLES class. Ienjoyed participating in the play and watching my othergroup members perform. The counselors were also great.Emma Sanders – I had a great time hiking at camp because Igot to see the camp and the lake from many angles. I alsoliked seeing all the different plants.Lauren Aten – I liked rock wall climbing because I beat theperson next to me up to the top because he kept falling.Caleb Johnson – I had a great time. I liked canoeing becauseI had never canoed before and the teachers were so helpful.Overall, it was an amazing experience.Leon Bragg – My friend and I loved rock wall climbing.It was hard but we were determined.Three LMS Students Receive Artistic Greatness!Three of <strong>Lake</strong>’s 8th graders have achieved artistic greatness! In December of this school year students inMs. Boxler’s Art Enrichment class entered a contest sponsored by the Community Services of StarkCounty and Arts in Stark. The contest was designed to raise awareness of the services offered byCommunity Services of Stark County. Based on the theme “Hope”, entrants were challenged to comeup with an original design for a tie or scarf.There will be two $1,000.00 prizes to be awarded. One of the prizes will be the People’s Choice Awardand this is where our <strong>Lake</strong> students come in. Drew Shreve, Tori Downing, and Nicole Vercuski, ArtEnrichment students, received the honor of being among the 15 entrees that the People’s Choice willbe chosen from. During the week of May 3-7, people voted for their favorite at the Joseph SaxtonGallery in downtown Canton. The winner will be announced in June.You can see their designs on the website http://www.tie1.org/entries.html. Tori’s design is the 1st,Drew’s design is the 4th, and Nicole’s design is the 6th. We would like to congratulate their hard work.Way to go!A Perfect Day at Clearwater for LMS StudentsOn May 26, 2010,333 LMS students wererewarded with anafternoon at ClearwaterPark in Uniontown.Students enjoyedswimming, putt-putt golf,a hotdog dinner and lotsof fun. For the first timein several years theweather cooperated withsunny skies and 85 degreetemperatures.This year the honor ofbeing invited toClearwater requiredstudents to meet one ofthe following; one A andnothing lower than a Bfor the first three gradingperiods, perfectattendance or teacherrecommendation. This isa much anticipated eventand students certainlystrive hard for aninvitation. We hope toincrease student invitesfor next year.
