APPENDIX 1. Published material formerly in theCheltenham College MuseumApart from the material mentioned byS. S. Buckman (1899) the following fourspecimens are known to have had type, figured orcited status.A. Figured syntype of Procvmatocerassubtruncatum (Morris and Lycett)- LA sinele soecimen of a nautiloid from the GreatOolite of Minchinhampton, Gloucestershire, wasillustrated as the new species Nautilussubtruncatus by Morris and Lycett (1851), norepository being given. S. S. Buckman (1899)found it in the collection of Cheltenham College(see also Richardson 1904, ~~155). In 1942 itwas transferred to Bristol Clty Museum (nowBRSMG Cb2968) far safekeeping by Mr S. D. Scott, the then acting curator of the College Museum,on behalf of the Bursar of the College (BRSMGHistorical File 3119). Nevertheless, Cox andArkell (1950) listed it as still at CheltenhamCollege. Kummel (1956), in a systematicrevision of the group, wrote (p.428) 'thegenotype described and figured by Morris andLycett does not seem to be available' and heillustrated instead a topotype (BMNH 21275),this figured syntype then being effectively lost.Syntype of Nautilus subtruncatus Morris andLycett, 1851, p.10, pl.1, figs. 2, Za.Genotype of Procvmatoceras Spath, 1927, pp.21,'25. . .Cited by Cox and Arkell (1950, p.91, caption toMorris and Lycett, pl.1, figs. 2, 2a) asProcvmatoce~as subtruncatum.B. T- cadus S. S. Buckman'C. I. Cardiner' coll. (not so, see main text),Cheltenham College Museum. Topotype, thus citedand figured by Arkell (1951-1959, pp.91-93,pl.XII, fig. 8a, b). Curated by P. J. Channonin 1950 as no.433 in 'C. I. Gardiner'scollection, Nautilus, Jurassic'. Rescued by HSTfrom the College's teaching collection in 1970,and passed to BM(NM) in April 1981, where it isregistered as C82796.C. O~oelia (Oxvcerites) waterhousei (Morris andLycett)'C. I. Gardner' [sic] coll. (not so, see maintext), Cheltenham College Museum no.146, thuscited by Arkell (1951-1959, p.66). Curated byP. J. Channon in 1950 as no.431 in'C. I. Gardiner's collection, waterhousei (Morris and Lycett)'; itsold registration number was 146. Passed toDepartment of Geology, Portsmouth Polytechnic, and then in November 1984 HST to the BM(NH),where it is registered C89608.D. Nautilus robustus Foord and CrickCrick (1902) cited two specimens of Nautilusrobustus from the College Museum, registrationnumbers 900 and 901. 900 was labelled byS. S. Buckman 'Marlstone. Lac. unknown; butprobably near Cheltenham and possibly AldertonHill'. Buckman thought it might have been thatcited by Strickland and J. Buckman (1844, p.40)as N. obesus. 901 had an original label'Nautilus, Marlstane, Gretton' byJames Buckman. One of these specimens may bethat cited in the Channon MSS catalogue of 1950as new no. 639 Nautilus robustus [N.B.] fromWhitby [sic] but it was not in the PortsmouthPolytechnic collection in 1971 (T. L. M. Smith, chief Acting Curator U,, 12 July 1971).Bath specimens may have to be considered lost.New no. 640, which labelled Stroud, seems tobear an old number of 912 and while a Liassicnautiloid cannot be one of those cited above.APPENDIX 2.
