If you have otherprescription drug coverage, such as through an employer plan, you shouldn’t cancel your other coverageyet. Keep your other coverage until you receive the confirmation letter from us.If you have a Medigap (<strong>Medicare</strong> Supplement Insurance) policy that includes prescription drug coverage,you must contact your Medigap issuer to let them know that you have joined a <strong>Medicare</strong> prescription drugplan. Your Medigap issuer will remove the prescription drug coverage portion of your policy and adjust yourpremium. Call your Medigap issuer for details.Generally, you may not enroll in a new plan during other times of the year unless you meet certain specialexceptions, such as if you move out of Medco <strong>Medicare</strong> Prescription Plan’s service area. FromNovember 15 through December 31 each year, you can enroll in a new <strong>Medicare</strong> prescription drugplan or <strong>Medicare</strong> health plan for the following year.If you qualify for extra help with your prescription drug costs, you may enroll in, or disenroll from, aplan at any time. <strong>Medicare</strong> Compliance and Fraud, Waste, and Abuse <strong>Training</strong> RequirementMedco is committed to compliance with the Centers for <strong>Medicare</strong> and Medicaid Services (CMS) requirementsand to supporting Medco-contracted pharmacies to ensure their compliance. It’s particularly important thatpharmacies and their employees be fully informed of <strong>Medicare</strong> <strong>Part</strong> D Programs and other federalrequirements relating to the detection, correction, and prevention of fraud, waste, and abuse (FWA).CMSregulations require that all entities contracted with a <strong>Medicare</strong> <strong>Part</strong> D Plan Sponsor participate in anapproved annual compliance training program.To fulfill this requirement in calendar year <strong>2009</strong>, pharmacies will need to train their employees through the useof one of the following training modules. Medco is making a module available free of charge, but you haveseveral training options:Medco’s <strong>Medicare</strong> Compliance and Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training module, which is located onMedco’s Pharmacist Resource Center website at www.medco.com/rph.<strong>Training</strong> modules developed by industry associations in conjunction with CMS, which have beendetermined by CMS to meet <strong>Medicare</strong> standards. These modules should be available no later thanJanuary, <strong>2009</strong>.*An alternative compliance training program that covers at a minimum the elements listed below.*When CMS provides further information regarding the associations’ training modules in January <strong>2009</strong>,Medco will provide you with links to the training and any other pertinent <strong>Medicare</strong> <strong>Part</strong> D guidance.Pharmacies must offer, on an annual basis, compliance training to all their employees who work with<strong>Medicare</strong> <strong>Part</strong> D, and attendance must be tracked and available upon audit. Medco will begin monitoring todetermine compliance as early as January 1, 2010.If you choose to develop your own program, the training modules should address at a minimum the followingtopics and should be available to Medco upon request:Inappropriate Billing PracticesBait-and-Switch PricingPrescription AlteringDispensing Expired or Adulterated Prescription DrugsIllegal RemunerationTrue Out-of-Pocket (TrOOP) ManipulationIncorrect or Misleading Notices to EnrolleesU.S. Office of Inspector General (OIG) Exclusion ListCompliance with Federal StatutesReporting Fraud, Waste, and Abuse.Reporting Fraud, Waste, and Abuse:With its commitment to compliance in mind, Medco has a Medco <strong>Medicare</strong> Prescription FWA Drug Hotline(1 800 303-9373), which is a toll-free hotline available around the clock. The hotline is a mechanism to enableindividuals, including pharmacies and other providers, to report confidentially any potential acts of fraud,waste, or abuse on an anonymous basis. Once reported, matters are investigated as appropriate, and actionis taken to address the reported events.Thank you for your time and attention to this important <strong>Medicare</strong> requirement.
