Diema’s Dreams Come True<br />

On June 2009 Diema’s Dream charity<br />

foundation held its annual Benefit<br />

Auction <strong>of</strong> Art “Dreams 2009” in GUM.<br />

The event was sponsored by Coca Cola,<br />

Stroytransgaz, Linklaters, Chevron, PricewaterhouseCoopers,<br />

KPMG, TNK-BP and<br />

many others. The auction was also supported<br />

by Christie’s and was conducted<br />

by its chairman Hugh Edmeades.<br />

Diema’s Dream was established in<br />

1998 <strong>to</strong> provide financial, medical, and<br />

educational support for both physically<br />

and mentally disabled children in Russia.<br />

The larger goal is <strong>to</strong> support changes in<br />

society and legislation in order <strong>to</strong> create<br />

social and medical support programs<br />

which would allow parents <strong>to</strong> raise their<br />

children at home rather than living in<br />

institutions. The founder <strong>of</strong> the charity<br />

Mary Dudley introduced “Take a Step”<br />

– a new program launched by Diema’s<br />

Vino I Formaggio<br />

On the May 20 the Canadian-Russian<br />

business association CERBA <strong>to</strong>gether<br />

with the Italian Business Association<br />

Italiani a Mosca held a joint social event<br />

“Vino e Formaggio”.<br />

The reception <strong>to</strong>ok place at <strong>one</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

Moscow’s popular restaurants “Club<br />

25”. The event’s format was chosen by<br />

the organizers as an Italian Wine and<br />

Cheese Tasting.<br />

Those attending the reception were Canadian,<br />

Italian and Russian businessmen,<br />

Rain, Nature and Jazz<br />

The first summer weekend in Moscow<br />

is traditionally dedicated <strong>to</strong> jazz. On<br />

June 6 and 7 the sixth international<br />

open-air festival Usadba.Jazz blasted<br />

<strong>of</strong>f in the Arkhangelskoye Estate.<br />

This year, despite the rain, Usadba.Jazz<br />

entertained over 15,000 guests. This year’s<br />

event will long be remembered because<br />

<strong>of</strong> the incredible line up, crazy dance mara-<br />

Dream in 2009. The goal <strong>of</strong> the program<br />

is <strong>to</strong> <strong>of</strong>fer assistance <strong>to</strong> low-income families<br />

with disabled children in need <strong>of</strong><br />

surgery or medical intervention and as<br />

a result provide them with a chance <strong>to</strong><br />

walk. All the art aucti<strong>one</strong>d was donated<br />

absolutely free by Russian as well as<br />

several foreign artists. After the dinner<br />

and the auction, the guests danced the<br />

night away <strong>to</strong> The Smokebreakers and<br />

Tony Watkins, who also introduced his<br />

new book and the album, Love’s Roads,<br />

available in the UK, Ireland and the U.S.<br />

and diplomats <strong>of</strong> both countries. There<br />

were representatives from companies<br />

such as Banco Populare, Banco Intesa, NovaScotia,<br />

E.N.I, Fiat, фтв щерукыю<br />

The guests had a chance <strong>to</strong> taste six<br />

different types <strong>of</strong> Italian wine, i.e. Corvo<br />

Rosso IGT Prod. Vini Corvo (Sicila),<br />

D’Istin<strong>to</strong> IGT Prod. Calatrasi (Sicila), Santa<br />

Cristina IGT Prod. Villa Antinori (Toscana),<br />

Gavi DOCG Prod. Corte dei Balbi<br />

Soprani (Piemonte).<br />

Barbera d’Asti DOC Corte dei Balbi Soprani<br />

(Piemonte), Cabernet Terra Serena<br />

IGT Vini Serena (Vene<strong>to</strong>).<br />

thons and Branford Marsalis’s performance<br />

on the first day <strong>of</strong> the festival. This year, the<br />

head-liners were Nino Katamadze and Insight,<br />

Nils Landgren and Funk Unit, Nickolas<br />

Bearde, Andrej Kondakov and Brazil All<br />

Stars, Oleg Nesterov and & Kapelle Berliner<br />

Postbote and many more. There was an<br />

art-garage sale, vintage shoes exhibition, a<br />

cardboard bus and many happy smiles.<br />

The festival included the Young Musicians<br />

Competition. More than 500 musicians<br />

applied for the chance <strong>to</strong> perform at<br />

Usadba.Jazz. The performers, who were all<br />

under 35, came from various parts <strong>of</strong> Russia<br />

and the CIS. Usadba. Jazz takes place at the<br />

Arkhangelskoye Estate, which is five kilometers<br />

out <strong>of</strong> Moscow. The festival stages were<br />

located in different parts <strong>of</strong> the enchanting<br />

manor; The “Aris<strong>to</strong>crat” stage was in the<br />

Main Court. The “<strong>Part</strong>er” was spanned out<br />

on the huge lawn. The “Kapriz” was housed<br />

at the Yusupov Colonmade. The “Lounge”<br />

occupied a spot by the Moscow River.<br />

Out&About<br />

All the pr<strong>of</strong>its <strong>of</strong> the book sale will go <strong>to</strong><br />

support Russian charities.<br />

With the help <strong>of</strong> Uley Catering that<br />

provided brilliantly organized catering<br />

and delicious food, Diageo, Parlament<br />

Group, Coca Cola Hellenic Bottling and<br />

The Ararat Park Hyatt Hotel that generously<br />

donated their products and<br />

services, as well as the many individual<br />

guests and guests <strong>of</strong> sponsors, Diema’s<br />

Dream managed <strong>to</strong> raise over $335,000<br />

<strong>to</strong> finance the programs supporting disabled<br />

children and orphans <strong>of</strong> Russia.c<br />

Delicious Italian cheeses, focaccia and<br />

olives were provided by the food sponsor,<br />

Reginella. The other two companies<br />

which generously sponsored the networking<br />

event were Italian Brunel CR<br />

and Canadian NovaScotia Bank.<br />
