Vallon MINEHOUND VMR3Dual-Sensor Mine DetectorMINEHOUND VMR3 is a Vallon GmbH Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) product. The Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) incorporatedinto MINEHOUND VMR3 has been developed by Cobham Technical Services. Please contact Vallon GmbH for MINEHOUND VMR3sales enquiries. For further technical information on the Cobham GPR, please contact Cobham Technical Services.Proven high-performance dual-sensor hand-held detector for worldwide Counter-IED and mine clearance operations.MINEHOUND VMR3 is an advanced technology, which combines a high-performance CobhamGround Penetrating Radar (GPR) with a VallonMetal Detector (MD). The unit has beendesigned to deliver enhanced Counter-IEDcapabilities for the most demanding militaryrequirements.• Combines advanced dual-sensor technology• Metal and minimum-metal mine detection• Ultra-high sensitivity• Easy operation• Alarm:- visual bargraph- audio signal- vibration• Simultaneous operation of MD and GPR• LightweightMINEHOUND VMR3 is simple to use, providingthe operator with clear audio signals to alertthe presence of a potential mine threat. Whena threat is located, the MD audio providesaccurate position information and mass of metalindication. The GPR audio provides additionalposition and depth information, and identifiesthe radar cross-section of the target. Bothdetectors can be used separately or together. The GPR responds to even the smallest flushburied mines, but not to small metal fragments. This means that metallic clutter, whichcommonly cause false alarms such as bulletcasings, small arms rounds and shrapnel, arerejected by the system. The GPR also detectsmines with minimum metal content whichare normally difficult to locate with metaldetection techniques alone.MINEHOUND VMR3 uses a MD produced byVallon GmbH and a custom designed 1 GHzGPR designed by Cobham Technical Services.A dedicated state-of-the-art DSP processoris used to provide all control and signalprocessing functions.t MINEHOUND VMR3 is supplied ready-to-use in a ruggedtransportation case, complete with all accessories.Note: Specialist MINEHOUND VMR3operator training is required prior to use ina ‘live’ minefield environment.MINEHOUND VMR3 is switched on by a pressbutton. A toggle key provides programs forthe metal detector programs N (normal soil)and M (conductive soil) as well as set-ups forthe MD and GPR. A headset and an internalloudspeaker, which can be muted, are alsoincluded.A push button in the handle allows theoperator to select the operation mode, MDor GPR or both. LEDs indicate which mode isoperative. The MD function is the prime search capabilityand offers a highly sensitive technology tolocate even minimum-metal mines (such as thePMA3 and M14). The operator can set the MDsensitivity, which is observed by means of anLED bar graph display. The GPR is self-calibrating in use by theoperator. The GPR mode will give an audioconfidence tick every 7.5 seconds to indicatecorrect operation.Technical dataMeasuring principle:Weight (ready for operation):Dual-sensor MD and GPRApprox. 4.0 kg (with Li-polymer battery)Telescopic bar length:Approx. 53 - 92 cm (handgrip - search head)Dimensions of search head:Approx. 17.8 x 31.4 cmPower supply:Lithium-polymer cells, rechargeable, additional battery compartment for 4 x 1.5 V D-cellsPower consumption:< 5 WOperation temperature: -31 °C to +63 °CStorage temperature: -51 °C to +71 °CEnvironmental conditions:According to MIL STD 810FF501.4-I, II; F502.4-I, II; F503.4-I; F506.4-III; F512.4-II; F01 514.5 C-1, C-3; F516.5-IVSoil programmes (MD):Waterproof:Alarm signal:Transport case:Transport weight:Normal soil (N) and Mineral soil (M)0.2 mAudio, visual and vibration102 x 43 x 17 cmApprox. 14 kgMetal detector performancePower line suppression:YesDemining environmental conditions: All worldGround-penetrating radar performanceDemining environmental conditions: Detects AP and AT mines in almost all soil conditions, but not in heavy clay or salt waterNATO codificationNATO Stock Number (NSN): 6665-12-383-0849Control functions in handleToggle key:N = Normal soilM = Mineral soilSETUPMODE selector:Select buttons:LEDs:Sweep speed:Input / Output:MD onlyGPR onlyMD and GPRReduce sensitivity or volumeIncrease sensitivity or volumeCompensationMD and GPR< 1.5 m/secHeadsetFirmware upgradeFor sales enquiries, please contact:Vallon GmbHArbachtalstr.10, 72800 Eningen, GermanyTel: +49 7121 9855-0E-mail: info@vallon.deFor technical information, please contact:Cobham Technical ServicesCleeve Road, Leatherhead, KT22 7SA, UKTel: +44 (0)1372 367000E-mail: cts.info@cobham.comCobham CTS Limited trading as Cobham Technical ServicesAll data is subject to change without prior notice.Images depict intended application examples for illustration.www.cobham.com/technicalservicesRef: CTS291012
