NewsletterOctober 2009LATEST NEWS!!Betta Electrical Cranbourne sign asmajor sponsor in 3 year deal!!12 TigerSharks medal at State AgeShort Course Championshps!5 TigerSharks compete at first everState Teams SC Champs at AIS!!Club Policies for TrainingImportant Reminder for All Parent & Swimmers. Please Read!Watching TrainingParents are asked to sit out of eye contact with their swimmer, as the child will often modify their behaviour becauseof the parent’s presence. They also become distracted from the tasks they are being set by the coach. If you choose towatch our training sessions it is club policy that you do so from the:Cafeteria area at Casey ARC & RACE Pools.“Swimmer Only” AreaThe following club policy is designed to foster a “swimmer only” area on our crowded pool decks:The only parents able to sit on pool side deck on the side of the pool when a squad is training are those ofnew Development Squad swimmers.Parents of swimmers in Junior, State Target, State Youth, National & Senior Competition Squads should notenter the training pool deck area at Casey ARC or RACE.All Junior-National Squad swimmers should be able to put on their own goggles, caps and fold their clothesthemselves. Teaching this skill early fosters the swimmer’s self-esteem and enhances their feeling of involvementand self-improvement. A young swimmer who knows how to put on their own goggles and cap is much more likelyto also learn new stroke skills quickly. Crowded pool deck areas also make pre-training stretching difficult forswimmers.Parent Pick-ups From Casey ARC & RACEIt is club policy that all parents/guardians pick up their swimmers from within the reception area of Casey ARC &RACE. Please always be 5 minutes early when picking up your athletes from any activity so coaches are not waitingwith swimmers on their own time. If you are unable to arrive 5 minutes early to be ready for supervised pick-up,please make other arrangements for your swimmer to be picked up promptly. Thanks.Supervision of Swimmers under 10 years at ARC & RACE ARCWe have been asked by YMCA staff to remind all parents of young club swimmers that all children under the age of10 must be supervised by an adult at all times. This means under 10 swimmers can not be dropped off 15 minutesprior to squad training starting without being closely accompanied by an adult. A swimmers is under coachsupervision if they are stretching on pool deck 10 minutes before their sessions starts and parents remain in thecafeteria area. If younger swimmers are going to have a play swim before the session starts, parents must be on deckwithin 10m of the swimmer supervising. Once squad begins, swimmers are under total coach supervision so there isno need to stay. Any questions, please phone Ben 0413-513-969

Arrive 5:55pm Casey ARC. (Nationals = training at RACE, no club night)Friday December 11 th . Arrive 5:55pm Casey ARC. (No training State Youth. Nationals = ARC 4:00-6pm +club night)Parents, Club Night only operates successfully due to our great parents that volunteer each month. To run a quickclub night we need a minimum of 17 parents on pool deck helping with a range of tasks from holding a stop watch, towriting down names, and inputting times to the laptop. Its easy, its fun, and you sometimes get free lollies… Pleasedon’t let the TigerSharks become a club where swimmers are just dropped off and picked up after club nights. It’s thebest time for parents to get to know each other and feel great volunteering for our swimmers.Parents with Helpful Skills Does anyone have experience with image editing and logo design. We are looking for someone to help create somebasic web graphics for the top banner on our website and redo some different types of logo jpegs etc. Contact Ben. Can anyone provide coach Ben with some A4 printing paper from work? Supplies are running low.

NewsletterOctober 20097-10s Encouragement Meet !!By Paul Pickering--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Sixteen Casey TigerSharks have progressed to the semi-final stage of the state championships for 7-10-year-olds onthe back of impressive swims in the district finals on Sunday. A strong contingent of TigerSharks juniors competed atthe Metro District South finals at the KlimSwim centre in Cheltenham, with most clocking resounding personal bests.TigerSharks assistant coach James Fox said he was “stoked” with the performances of his emerging swim stars.“I wasn’t expecting to have that many kids make it through, because a lot of the kids who’ve made the top 10 inprevious years have now fallen out of the age group.“But now we’ve got some kids following in the footsteps of the likes of Jake Templar and Matthew Shaw,” he said.Nine-year-old Jake Duggan is one who looks set to make that leap. He finished first in the 50m breaststroke andsecond in the freestyle, backstroke and butterfly disciplines. Duggan was among six TigerSharks to qualify for thesemi-finals in all four events, joining Michael Vincent, Shaun Banzon, Nathan Baltruschaitis, Adrianna Grech andEllie Corbett. Teammates Tamara Banh, Talia Banh, Erena Koukounaras, Shae Williams, Andrew West, Zak Benton,Jayden Race, Matthew Glover, Cooper Perros and Andrew Cooper all progressed in at least one of their chosenstrokes. The semi-finals and finals will be held on 15 and 16 November.Membership Recruitment Drive Special Offer !!James & Ben are currently accepting tryouts for new swimmers. There were some very good performances and personal best times set. The targeted meets foreach squad are very important for consolidating racing techniques learnt at training. A reminder when entering inswim meets that the SWIMMERS should see a coach prior to entries closing with a copy of the meet sheet. I havefound many swimmers are not doing this and it is resulting in poor selection of events leading into states. All entriesshould also be on time. Be organized with your meets; don’t leave it to the last minute as I will not be following uplate entries.State Youth & State TargetOver the past month I have been taking attendance for the squad and all swimmers should be aware of the minimumnumber of sessions they must be doing. This is calculated on a average so in you are unaware of what your minimumaverage should be please come and see me. It is important that you stick to these averages as it will result in betterperformances at swim meets.I would also like remind everyone that I am currently accepting try-outs for new members. So if you know someonethat might be interested in joining, please let me know as our best recruiting is by word of mouth!!!Cheers James Fox
