LIVESTOCK2013Farm Weekly WAAlan EvansSelling ComplexBrunswickThursday, February 14, 2013<strong>Supreme</strong>Bull Sale133 Bulls 8 Breeds 31 Studs104 Farm Weekly Thursday, February 21, BULLOCK HILLS <strong>$17</strong>,<strong>750</strong><strong>Bullock</strong> <strong>Hills</strong> <strong>tops</strong> <strong>Supreme</strong> <strong>at</strong> <strong>$17</strong>,<strong>750</strong>❐ WIth the <strong>$17</strong>,<strong>750</strong> top-priced bull <strong>at</strong> last week's Farm Weekly WA <strong>Supreme</strong> Bull Sale <strong>at</strong> Brunswick sold by the <strong>Bullock</strong> <strong>Hills</strong> stud, K<strong>at</strong>anning,were Landmark st<strong>at</strong>e livestock manager Leon Giglia (left), who purchased the bull on behalf of the Wormbete Simmental stud, Illabo, NSW andthe Valley Creek Simmental stud, Bowral, NSW, Elders stud represent<strong>at</strong>ive and K<strong>at</strong>anning agent Russell McKay and <strong>Bullock</strong> <strong>Hills</strong> connectionsSam, Sylvia and Brad P<strong>at</strong>terson.By JODIE RINTOUL andKANE CHATFIELDIT was a day of two tales <strong>at</strong> lastweek’s Farm Weekly WA<strong>Supreme</strong> Bull Sale <strong>at</strong> Brunswickwhere prices hit a high of<strong>$17</strong>,<strong>750</strong> for a <strong>Bullock</strong> <strong>Hills</strong>Simmental bull.While some vendors recordedtheir best ever results, othersstruggled to sell a bull as buyerskept their hands in their pocketsdue to a lack of confidence inthe c<strong>at</strong>tle industry.While the quality of bullscouldn’t be questioned it was <strong>at</strong>ough day <strong>at</strong> the office for theElders and Landmark sellingteams which had to use every bitof their experience to extractbids from buyers.By the time the final bull hadleft the ring the Elders andLandmark selling teams hadcleared 71 bulls from the 133offered <strong>at</strong> an average of $4130,which was down $584 on lastyear when 70 bulls sold from105 offered <strong>at</strong> an average of$4714.The increase in the number ofbulls offered and reducedbuying list certainly were thetwo key factors which had asignificant impact on the overallclearance of the sale comparedto last year.This year there were 31vendors to offer bulls in the salefrom eight breeds which meantthere was plenty of variety andbloodlines for buyers to choosefrom.In the European breeds it wasthe Simmental breed which tooktop honours with an average of$5231 for the 13 bulls sold.This was the best breedaverage on the day, with theBlonde d’Aquitaine breed nextbest with an average of $4111for the nine bulls sold.In the British breeds theHerefords were again the bestperformers averaging $4500 forthe 12 out of 17 bulls sold, withthe Angus breed second with anaverage of $4096 for the 13bulls sold.But the accolades for theSimmental breed didn’t endwith top average honours - italso took top price honourswhen a well-muscled bull fromthe P<strong>at</strong>terson family’s <strong>Bullock</strong><strong>Hills</strong> stud, K<strong>at</strong>anning, sold for aSimmental St<strong>at</strong>e auction recordprice of <strong>$17</strong>,<strong>750</strong>.The <strong>$17</strong>,<strong>750</strong> price tag alsomarked the highest price paidfor a bull <strong>at</strong> the <strong>Supreme</strong> salesince the $22,000 paid for aCharolais bull <strong>at</strong> the 2006 sale.Taking the top honours in thesale was the first bull offered inthe <strong>Bullock</strong> <strong>Hills</strong> team, <strong>Bullock</strong><strong>Hills</strong> Gladi<strong>at</strong>or G601 (P) (ET).As soon as the 954kg,exciting young sire entered the

LIVESTOCKFarm Weekly WA<strong>Supreme</strong> Bull SaleFarm Weekly Thursday, February 21, 2013109Thursday,February 14, 2013<strong>Bullock</strong> <strong>Hills</strong> George G021 wasthe Cowcher family, Willandrastud, Williams.George G021 was sired by<strong>Bullock</strong> <strong>Hills</strong> Yule-Du (P) andhad EBVs of +28, +44 and +54for 200, 400 and 600-dayweight.Two bulls in the <strong>Bullock</strong><strong>Hills</strong> team also made $4000 andthese were purchased by JB &H Wringe, Kirup and WRSmith, Marlo Farm,Gnowangerup.Offering and selling one bullin the sale was SamWeightman, Seven Brooks stud,Forest Grove.The single entry from SevenBrooks, Seven BrooksGentleman G003 waspurchased <strong>at</strong> $5000 by AB, GL& SM Kammann, Manjimup.The 1035kg Gentleman G003was sired by Woonallee BuddyWeep B087 and had EBVs of+3.8 for birthweight, +5 formilk and +28, +44 and +47 for200, 400 and 600-day weight.The third stud to offer bulls inthe Simmental run was theTopweight stud, Forest Grove,which offered two sires andsold one <strong>at</strong> $3000 to AMGranucci, Manjimup.The stud’s sole bull to sellwas Topweight Gardner GT44which was sired by WoonalleeVision and had EBVs of +19,+20 and +22 for 200, 400 and600-day weight.❐ LimousinThe Limousin breed was nextinto the ring with 22 bulls onoffer from six vendors howeverdespite the quality of theoffering, a lack of buyingsupport resulted in adisappointing sale for the breedwith only three bulls sellingunder the hammer for anaverage of $3333.Topping this section of thesale <strong>at</strong> $4000 and achieving acomplete clearance of the twobulls it offered was theWillendaise stud.Securing the top Willendaisebull, Willendaise GranthamG018 (P) <strong>at</strong> $4000 was P<strong>at</strong>riciaFraser, PC Fraser, Nannup.Grantham G018 was sired byLysgorran Chevalier and had❐ Elders auctioneer Don Morgan (left), Kingslane stud connection and Cranston’s Wandering propertymanager Geoff Hillman and Kingslane stud manager Cam Steele, Benger property manager, with the$4000 top-priced Kingslane Red Angus bull th<strong>at</strong> was purchased by Wellard Agri, Fremantle.EBVs of +2.6 for birthweight,+13 for milk and +17, +23 and+33 for 200, 400 and 600-dayweight.Ms Fraser said she purchasedthe Willendaise bull to breedreplacement heifers in herLimousin herd of 310 females.“He is polled, has good milkfigures and is an easy fleshingsire th<strong>at</strong> I think will breed gre<strong>at</strong>daughters,” she said.“I will sell the heifers I do notwish to keep with the steeryearlings <strong>at</strong> 18 months of ageoff pasture.”The second Willendaise bullto sell, sold for $3000 to GW &AP Clifford, Donnybrook.The only other stud whichmanaged to sell a bull in theLimousin run was theLysgorran stud, Boddington.It sold Lysgorran Gazette G3(PU) for $3000 to JohnCilemanoff, Manjimup, whohad a left a buying order withLandmark Manjimuprepresent<strong>at</strong>ive Don Lyster.Gazette G3 was sired byLysgorran Bullino.❐ AngusBy numbers the Angus breedwith 22 bulls offered was thethird biggest in the sale.However limited buyingsupport resulted in only 13 ofthe 22 bulls offered sellingunder the hammer for anaverage of $4096 and to a topof $5250 on three occasions.Topping the Angus section ofthe sale was the Black Marketstud, Donnybrook, when it soldits three bulls all <strong>at</strong> the $5250top price.Securing two of the BlackMarket bulls <strong>at</strong> this price wasElders Boyanup agent MalBarrett, who was bidding onbehalf of Darwonga Farm,KINGSLANE $4000Ferguson Valley.Darwonga Farm purchasedfull ET brothers Black MarketWarwick G018 (AI) (ET) andBlack Market Warwick G021(AI) (ET).The two bulls were sired byBooroomooka Warwick W245and out of Vermont WilcoolaZ323.Warwick G018 had growthEBVs of +45, +81 and +100 for❐ Continued on page 110BULLS AVAILABLE FOR SALEPRIVATELY ON-FARMFrom $2500 inc GSTPlease note we are not selling <strong>at</strong> thisyear’s Invit<strong>at</strong>ion SaleContact Steve Magini on9833 12371394416
