My name is Alfred Adams, andI am a member of the undergraduate Class of 1968 andthe Law School Class of 1973.I look forward to serving youduring my term as the new Alumni Association president.Please be sure to mark your calendars for Homecoming<strong>2003</strong>, which will be held on October 10-11.This year we arehonoring a very special <strong>Wake</strong> <strong>Forest</strong>er at Homecoming,bestowing the Distinguished Alumni Award on retired ChaplainEd Christman (’50, JD ’53). Chaplain Christman will be honored during ourFriday evening reception for alumni, faculty, and emeriti faculty in the GreenRoom from 5–7 p.m.You won’t want to miss it. Since this reception also honorsother faculty, please be sure to complete the section of the Homecoming brochureabout professors you hope to see at this reception.We will extend a special invitationto them.On Saturday, October 11,we will hold our third Homecoming Service ofRemembrance, which honors the memory of <strong>Wake</strong> <strong>Forest</strong>ers who have passedaway.The service will begin at 9 a.m. in Wait Chapel.The names of all <strong>Wake</strong><strong>Forest</strong>ers who have passed away since October 2002 will be read aloud.A special highlight of Homecoming will be the Festival on the Quad, plannedfor Saturday morning. Bring your family and enjoy Krispy Kreme donuts andBiscuitville biscuits, games for the kids, and more.We are delighted to have livebluegrass music again this year, thanks to Dean Billy Hamilton, Cindy Hamilton,Dean Linda McKinnish Bridges, Rev. Harold McKinnish, Clay Hipp, BarbaraTrautwein, and Dr. Richard Zuber.The Festival on the Quad is a great way tostart the day, followed by our tailgate and football game against Georgia Tech,and ending after the game with a post-game party at Bridger Field House atGroves Stadium. Please call or e-mail your friends and classmates and makeplans to join us—Homecoming is a wonderful time for <strong>Wake</strong> <strong>Forest</strong>ers to betogether!Also, I am pleased to partner with our National College Fund Chair, JimJudson (’80), as we set out to accomplish something that <strong>Wake</strong> <strong>Forest</strong> has neverdone before—achieving 10,000 donors to the College Fund. Please join Jim andme in reaching this historic goal. Every gift, no matter the amount, is meaningfulto <strong>Wake</strong> <strong>Forest</strong>. She and her husband, WesleyLedford (’54),have two grown children andlive in Charlotte.Howard E. Glenn Jr. (’57),a retired vicepresident and investment officer at WachoviaSecurities, is chair of the Board of Visitors and amember of the Board of Trustees at Oak RidgeMilitary Academy, a college-prep boardingschool, in Oak Ridge, NC.Thomas K. Carlton Jr. (’59) is a pediatricianin Salisbury, NC. He and his wife, Mimi, havefour children, all <strong>Wake</strong> <strong>Forest</strong> graduates.Theyhave 14 grandchildren, all potential <strong>Wake</strong><strong>Forest</strong>ers, who provide an active pediatricpractice for their pediatrician-in-residence.Jerald A. Holleman (’59) retired after 39 yearswith Johnson & Johnson in New Brunswick, NJ.He was vice president of state governmentaffairs for the pharmaceutical and corporateorganizations.1960sS. Bruce Edwards Jr. (’60) is founder andCEO of Bruce Edwards and Associates inResearch Triangle Park, NC. His search firm hasbeen placing senior executives in Fortune 500companies throughout the world for 15 years.J.Taylor Ryan (’62) is retired from IBM, livesin Southport, NC, and works for several softwaresolutions companies. His son, ShawnRyan (’96), lives in Atlanta.Caleb H. Barnhardt Jr. (’63) has been amember of the <strong>Wake</strong> <strong>Forest</strong> Deacon Club for40 years and has set up a basketball full-scholarshipendowment fund.Thomas D. Franklin Jr. (’63, MS ’67) resignedfrom the Texas Health Research Institute after13 years as president.
