MODIFYINGSTREETSCAPESTATIONARYRADAR SIGNStationary radar signs direct a driver’s attention to theposted speed limit and digitally display the speed of thedriver’s vehicle on a large message board. This instantfeedback results in a greater awareness of the speedlimit and encourages motorists to adjust their speedaccordingly, if needed. Typically, these signs are installedwhere other physical traffic calming measures are notappropriate. These installations have been shown toreduce vehicle speeds by 6-8 mph.Locations are selected based on prioritized scoringcriteria and available funding.
