24/25HKB: Leader in industrial/commercial plants acrossEurope and AsiaOver 20 years experience and the affiliation to the Viessmann Group has opened up new potentialfor handling the construction and sales of powerful steam and hot water boiler plants.The success of HKB Ketelbouw BV, foundedin 1989, is mainly based on the high demandin steam boilers for large commercialnurseries and mushroom farms, the numbersof which surged during those years.This also quickly led to an increased demandin boiler systems for other commercial andindustrial sectors, such as heating centres forlarge buildings, housing and industrial estates.HKB now specialises in the provision of large,ready-to-use systems for the generationof hot water and steam. The company isequipped to build customised boilers of up toten metres in width and 40 metres in length.Increasing demand from many sectors, thequality of the products and the proximity tothe customer resulted in continuous growth.Most recently, with the integration into theViessmann Group, sales in the European andAsian markets have been boosted.Individual solutions forinternational marketsThe worldwide marketing activities of theViessmann Group are securing continuedgrowth and are also leading to newapproaches from within HKB. 26/27Efficient heat and power generation withcompact combined heat and power modulesWith its combined heat and power modules, Viessmann covers all requirementsfor environmentally responsible heating with natural gas, biogas and biomethane.An advanced gas driven combined heatand power module (CHP) generates bothelectricity and heat simultaneously. On theheating side, the CHP module operates inparallel to a boiler. Both heat sources areconnected to the heating system to generateheating water and DHW.The development of the compactVitobloc 200, produced by the Viessmannsubsidiary ESS, focused on producingdecentralised CHP modules with a biastowards heating. Comparatively smallunits generate electricity for consumptionon site. The heat that is generated by thisprocess is used simultaneously, almostwithout losses, for heating. Any powernot required is exported into the publicgrid. The Vitobloc 200 output can reach401 kW el. Long maintenance intervals of up to6000 hours further improve the economy.CHP module and biomethane in asingle packageViessmann offers a Vitobloc CHP modulewith a supply contract for biomethane in one.The export of the eco power into the grid asenvisaged by the Renewable Energy SourcesAct makes these installations highly viable.Heating with biogas benefitsthe environmentA CHP module can also be operated withparticular environmental responsibility whenusing biogas or biomethane – in which caseits operation is CO 2neutral. This way, userscan make themselves independent of fossilfuels such as natural gas, since biogas andbiomethane are locally produced fuels.Micro CHP appliance for detached housesAlongside the high-powered CHP modules,the micro CHP Vitotwin 300-W fordetached houses is a genuine alternativeto conventional heating systems whenmodernising. The micro CHP module operateswith exceptional economy where the annualgas consumption is at least 26,000 kWh andthe power consumption lies above 3000 kWhper annum. As heat is constantly generatedduring operation, it is essential that thesystem is combined with a heating waterbuffer cylinder. With its durable Stirling enginethe micro CHP appliance is virtuallymaintenance-free.The investment makes the customer moreindependent both from fossil fuels and thepower supply utility, as power is generatedon site. Surplus power is exported to the localgrid and, in Germany, is currently reimbursedat around €0.10/kWh.
