FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEApril 4, 2007Contact: Sharon Hurt Davidson412.741.2230 ext. 3042Sewickley Academy Announces PICTURE THIS Campaignand the Establishment of McAdams Scholars Program with a$1 million GiftOn April 4, 2007, Sewickley Academy entered the public phase of its $20 millionPICTURE THIS Campaign to benefit people and programs at the school. PICTURETHIS will fund innovative and visionary projects that will transform the educationalexperience for students by adding $15 million to the Academy’s endowment. Funds willgo towards the enhancement of student programs like financial aid, global education, andstudent support services. For faculty, 10 endowed faculty Chairs will be established, aswell as increased professional development and a faculty mentoring program. Anadditional $5 million will go towards Phase I of the Campus Master Plan: an initiative forcampus improvements that will enhance opportunities for social interaction, providestate-of-the-art facilities and places to work and play.Douglas B. McAdams, father of a current Sewickley Academy student and Academyalumna, and soon-to-be grandfather of a Pre-K student, is the CEO of TransportInvestments, Inc. and a lead donor to the Campaign. His recent gift of 1.15 milliondollars represents two areas of interest. A portion will support the Master Plan with theconstruction of the “McAdams Circle,” a driveway on the Lower School campus that willensure pedestrians have a safe space to walk and that will help traffic move efficientlyabout campus. The centerpiece of the gift to Sewickley Academy is $1 million, which will go towardestablishing a scholarship fund, the McAdams Scholars Program. It was something henotes had been in the works for a while: “I didn’t plan on setting up the McAdamsScholars Program for another two years, but Head of School Kolia O’Connor’senthusiasm about the PICTURE THIS Campaign moved me to act sooner.” His hope isthat the Scholars program will enrich the lives of students wanting to come to theAcademy, but for whom tuition costs poses a problem: “There are many scholarships atthe university level, but not enough at the secondary level. Through the McAdamsScholars Program and my commitment to the PICTURE THIS Campaign, more childrenwill have the opportunity to come here and to excel, and then apply those credentialsduring the college experience and the rest of their lives.”

McAdams Scholars will be students of distinction, selected not only for their academicrecord, but for their participation on the athletic field and in other areas of school life, including their personal commitment to volunteering in the community. Not wanting tosimply offer funds for Academy hopefuls, McAdams is passionate about keeping track ofwhat scholarship recipients do during their time away from campus. He supports the ideaof providing learning tools like computers or off-campus experiences to increase the wayin which he can help students achieve their true potential.McAdams, whose family includes many educators, has always been interested in thedifferent aspects of education: academic, athletic, and service-learning experiences.“Receiving while giving back will inspire the best in humanity,” he says. Impressed withthe level of education his daughters have received at Sewickley Academy, he remainsimpressed with the quality of the faculty and the school’s ongoing commitment toexcellence. Through his gift to Phase I of the PICTURE THIS Campaign’s Master Planand the establishment of the McAdams Scholars Program, Douglas McAdams has shownamazing support for Sewickley Academy’s promising plans for the future. To date, the PICTURE THIS Campaign has successfully raised $12,250,000 towards itsgoal of $20 million.
