3<strong>Meet</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Freshmen</strong>This year, <strong>the</strong> freshmen class at <strong>West</strong> Lu<strong>the</strong>ran <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> consists of 40 studentsthat come from a variety of Lu<strong>the</strong>ran Elementary grade schools in addition toa few public schools. This fun-loving group of ninth graders has enjoyed <strong>the</strong>ir firstfew weeks getting <strong>the</strong>ir feet wet with <strong>the</strong> whole high school scene. With commonclasses, sports teams, and o<strong>the</strong>r extracurricular activities, <strong>the</strong>se kids have hadsome great bonding experiences.One such experience took place on September 8 th when <strong>the</strong> <strong>West</strong> freshmen wentto <strong>the</strong> YMCA Camp Iduhapi in Loretto, MN for an afternoon of team building. Thestudents and three faculty members had <strong>the</strong> opportunity to watch <strong>the</strong>se young peoplego through a number of games, brain teasers, and o<strong>the</strong>r group team buildingexercises that help build friendships and streng<strong>the</strong>n already solid Christian friendships.The overall experience was quite successful and has been successful as<strong>West</strong> Lu<strong>the</strong>ran <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> has been going to Iduhapi for <strong>the</strong> past eight years.AssociationCongregations<strong>West</strong> Lu<strong>the</strong>ran <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> isblessed to have 20 associationcongregations thatsupport <strong>the</strong> mission of <strong>the</strong>high school. These congregationsinclude:■ Abiding Savior – Elk River■ Ascension – Plymouth■ Brooklyn – Brooklyn Park<strong>Freshmen</strong> learning to build trust .Campers working on a brain teaserwith ropes .■ Christ – Eden Prairie■ Cross – Rockford■ Cross of Christ – CoonRapids■ Faith – Excelsior■ Faith – Prior Lake■ Holy Trinity – New HopeGRANDPARENTS’ DAYGrandparents’ Day is a special day for <strong>the</strong> students as well as grandparents. Thestudents have an opportunity to interact with <strong>the</strong>ir grandparents as well as show off<strong>the</strong>ir school, and <strong>the</strong> grandparents can see what <strong>the</strong> grandkids are doing in school.This year was especially a lot of fun since Grandparents’ Day was on October 8 thduring Homecoming Week, and of all days--Spirit Day. Our visitors enjoyed a lot ofenergy from <strong>the</strong> students that day.Our grandparents enjoyed a Chapel led by Mr. Jensen, attended classes, <strong>the</strong>npizza for lunch. Thank you grandparents for an enjoyable day.WARRIOR FOR A DAYOctober 18th was a special day for <strong>West</strong>Lu<strong>the</strong>ran, over 120 sixth, seventh, andeighth graders were our guests for Warriorfor a Day. The idea is to simulate a day inhigh school and see what it might be like toattend <strong>West</strong> Lu<strong>the</strong>ran.■ Hope – Andover■ Immanuel – Buffalo■ King of Grace – GoldenValley■ Mt. Students must achieve at least a 3.60 grade point average to qualify. Megan is <strong>the</strong>daughter of Rev. Dennis and Cindy Klatt of New Hope, MN.Emilee Keil (’07) recently graduated from <strong>the</strong> University of Minnesota-Duluth with a Bachelor Degree of Fine Arts in DigitalArt and Photography.Emily Tommerdahl (’06) graduated Magna Cum Laude from Gustavus Adolophus College, St. Peter, MN, on May 30. Shereceived a degree in education.Emily Zehrer (’06) graduated Cum Laude from Gustavus Adolophus College, St. Peter, MN on May 30. She received adegree in nursing.Michael (’03) and Megan [Gerdes] (’03) Enstad announced <strong>the</strong> birth of <strong>the</strong>ir son, Elijah Howard, on May 14, 2010. Elijahwas 6 lbs. 7 oz. and 18 inches at birth. Mike and Megan live in Lakewood, WA where Mike is a Doctor of Chiropractic andMegan is an elementary school teacher.Bethany Lu<strong>the</strong>ran College in Mankato, MN announced <strong>the</strong> following WLHS graduates were named to <strong>the</strong> 2010 SpringSemester Academic Dean’s List. She was 8 lbs. 5 oz.and 21 inches long at birth.
