Primary French Lesson Plans
Scottish Parliament
These activities were created by Christine Johnston (Scottish Borders Council) and Karen
Rae (Edinburgh). They are designed to encompass a variety of topics linked to the Scottish
Parliament. These cover the 4 attainment outcomes of Modern Languages in the 5 – 14
guidelines. They focus on Level C and D.
These lessons would be ideal to reinforce or introduce topics such as –
• Introducing Others
La carte d’identité (writing)
This is a web activity. Pupils should search for their MSPs by entering their postcode on
the Parliament’s website. They can then use the information on their MSPs to fill in the
identity card. http://www.scottish.parliament.uk/msp/index.htm
• Colours
Quel sont les partis politiques représentés au Parlement écossais? (reading and writing)
This worksheet should be printed or photocopied in colour; otherwise the second activity
cannot be completed.
• Time
Le journal d’un MSP (reading and writing) There is a brief diary of a day for an MSP.
Pupils are then asked to choose phrases to describe what she did at specific times.
• Directions
Plan du Parlement écossais (speaking and listening)
This activity uses a map which is available on the web link below. Copies can be printed
in advance. Pupils should work in pairs and take turns to choose one place to direct
their partner to. The other person follows the directions on their map until they reach
their destination. Each person should choose three places.
• Countries
Le mot caché (reading and writing) – a word search of the countries in Europe
These activities integrate ICT by allowing pupils the opportunity to use the Scottish
Parliament website to complete some of the worksheets.
The worksheets could be used as assessments at the end of a topic or in isolation while
studying the Scottish Parliament, Europe or European Languages Day (26 th September
2007).
