MISSION STATEMENT
Rosati-Kain High School is a Catholic, Archdiocesan college
preparatory school for young women who want to be challenged
and supported in faith and in their efforts to acquire
the knowledge and skills necessary to become their best selves
contributing in the spirit of Jesus Christ to a changing, multicultural
world community.

Letter from the president
Dear alumnae and friends of Rosati-Kain High School,
What a celebration it was! One-hundred years of leadership, service, faith and so much more. As I look
at this centennial year in review, I am awed by the tradition of commitment and generosity. Every one
of the thousands of Rosati-Kain alumnae received a great gift. The gift of a wonderful R-K education
was made possible for each of us by parents or guardians who sacrificed to make sure we had the R-K
experience. Whether tuition was thirty dollars, as it was in the thirties, or eight thousand dollars as it is
today, our parents stretched family resources to meet their tuition obligation. Of course, tuition never
fully funds the educational value that students receive. Tuition is supplemented by benefactors. The
School Sisters of Notre Dame, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, our faculty, and Archdiocesan parishes, as well as
individual donors and volunteers, have insured that Rosati-Kain students are gifted with an education more excellent
than they can afford or imagine. As evidence, the Cardinal Newman Society recently listed Rosati-Kain on their National
Catholic High School Honor Roll in recognition of academic excellence. Many times it has been said that God will not
be outdone in generosity, and God truly has used many of you to be channels of generosity.
At our Founders’ Day Liturgy at the opening of this school year we closed the centennial and crossed over the threshold
to our future. Commitment and generosity will again be hallmarks of our success. The newly-formed President’s Council,
chaired by Mark Hugeback, is prepared to lend its leadership as our second century unfolds. It will build on the work of
the advisory board members who were instrumental in bringing Rosati-Kain to our 100 year milestone so successfully.
Personally, and on behalf of our school, I will always be grateful to Sister Cathy Doherty, SSND ‘74, Patrick Henning,
John O’Hara, Sharon A. Sanders ‘63, and all those who served with or before them.
The biggest building project of 2011 was replacing the antiquated boiler and radiator system with a full heating,
ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) system. The entire school facility is now comfortable, safe, quiet, and conducive
to all the educational, spiritual, and social activities that will constitute a great Rosati-Kain experience for decades to come.
Our first Capital Campaign: “Build the Dream…Live the Legacy” continues. Reaching the two million dollar mark
brought reason to rejoice and you will see the list of donors in this publication. Our ambitious goal is to create the facility
our mission deserves and so our work continues.
Rosati-Kain High School is blessed to have an extended family of alumnae, friends, local businesses and past parents
that support current students and faculty. Your gift, whether it was to the Annual Fund, the Scholarship Program or the
Capital Campaign (or all three!) helps continue the work begun at R-K 100 years ago. You are our heritage and our legacy

Basketball Season
Nancy Mueller ‘78
coached her last
basketball season at
R-K after 25 years of
coaching basketball in
the Archdiocese. She
began her coaching
career at Mercy High
School where she spent
three years before
coaching the Rosati-Kain JV team for an
amazing 22 years.
Mueller also coached eight years of R-K
varsity track and field and 17 years of
volleyball, including one year of JV and 16
of varsity. In 1993, she helped coach the
volleyball team to the Final Four in state.
Mueller has also been the assistant JV
softball coach for the Kougars for the past
nine years.
“Nancy Mueller is a terrific coach. She is
incredibly well organized. She has high
expectations of the players and herself
and she is always a positive role model
who does the best she can for the girls and
for Rosati-Kain,” said Bryan Kasten, who
has coached basketball and softball with
Mueller for 16 years.
Lester honored with Loeb Prize
Rosati-Kain High School Physics teacher
Lauren Lester was honored at the St. Louis
Science Center on May 8, 2012 as one of
five finalists for the Loeb Prize. Established
in 1995 by Carol B. and Jerome T. Loeb,
in partnership with the Science Center,

Sr. Mary Denis Curran, CSJ
Sr. Mary Denis Curran, CSJ, longtime R-K faculty member, passed away
peacefully on Dec. 23, 2011 after a brief illness. She was 84 years
old. Sr. Denis taught English at Rosati-Kain for 36 years (1957-1958
and 1973-2008) and is greatly missed by the R-K community.

leadeRship day
R-K extended its leadership program to elementary school students
on april 20, 2012, in celebration of its annual Charism day, a tradition
which began in 2010. as part of the Centennial celebrations, R-K
students held leadership day 2012 as a “gift of self” to the Catholic
school community.
student teams visited grade schools and presented interactive
student-written skits on positive leadership skills and role models. R-K
students presented the stop-action skits with breaks to engage the
grade school students in discussion.
after the sessions at the grade schools, R-K students returned to
school, where each girl had the opportunity to prayerfully reflect on
her own experience that day. leadership day 2012 was designed
to share R-K’s rich tradition of women in leadership, uniquely Alive in
Christ with the local Catholic school community.

Rosati-Kain held its Centennial service day on feb. 21, 2012 renewing
R-K’s commitment to the City of st. louis and the Central west end
through service to the local community.
That day, all 405 current R-K students, along with faculty, parents, and
alumnae volunteers went into the community for a one-day “service
blitz.”

The Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA)
is a yearly campaign to provide
support for those in need within
the Archdiocese of St. Louis. The
designated Matching Gift program lets
individuals make a gift to the ACA and
have its corporate match go to Rosati-
Kain High School.
R-K’s Annual Fund strives to provide
aggressive tuition assistance to our
families in need. The success of the
Annual Fund is based on the support
of our generous alumnae and the ACA
grant.
In 2011-2012, R-K received a $26,950
grant from the ACA, which helped
keep tuition costs affordable for
current R-K families.

The impact of your gift:
2011-2012 Tuition Assistance
The Vassia Family Charitable Foundation awarded a
$31,200 grant to Rosati-Kain High School specifically
for tuition assistance. R-K has been awarded this grant
since 2007. This year, 27 students received awards
ranging from $2,500 to $350. Seventeen girls received
over $1,000 in Vassia tuition assistance grants. This gift
allowed R-K to give one-time grants to students and
their families who may have otherwise been unable to
afford tuition this year or may not have been able to
attend R-K at all.
At R-K, every gift makes a substantial
impact on our community.

Rosati-Kain High School is fortunate to have
so many wonderful supporters of our Annual
Fund. We began our Annual Fund giving program
in the early 1990’s after administrators
became mindful that the cost of educating a
student with a premiere, Catholic education
would continue to rise. With the reality that
this cost may become prohibitive to families
R-K traditionally serves, the R-K Annual Fund
was created. Thus, our alumnae, parents, faculty,
grandparents and friends have become
instrumental to the steady growth of our Annual
Fund, which generously subsidizes tuition
for all families.
Introduction of the Loyalist Circle
Rosati-Kain has created a new giving society
to honor those donors who continually give
to the Annual Fund year after year. Thus,
the people listed as members of our Loyalist
Circle on the following page are recognized
for giving a gift to the Annual Fund every fiscal
