The Golden Eagles host the Badgers at Valley Fields at 7:30 p.m. It is theBadgers’ 12th all-time trip to the <strong>NCAA</strong> tourney and the first time facing an in-state foein the tourney.“It’s truly exciting to be a part of the women’s soccer championships,” coach DeanDuerst said. “It’s a tradition here at Wisconsin that our players should expect to be a partof and know that it takes a lot of hard work to get there. We worked extremely hard.”SCOUTING MARQUETTE, UW-MILWAUKEE AND PEPPERDINEThe Badgers own a <strong>com</strong>bined 17-5-5 record versus Marquette and UW-Milwaukee. IfWisconsin and Pepperdine advance to the second round, it would be the first meetingbetween the two programs.Wisconsin fell to Marquette, 1-0, early on this year. Like the Badgers, the GoldenEagles advanced to their conference championship game, but fell 2-1 in the title game.Wisconsin defeated UW-Milwaukee, 1-0, during the regular season. Amy Vermeulenhad the lone goal for the Badgers while Kelly Conway posted five saves for the shutout.UWM (11-5-5) earned an automatic bid to the <strong>NCAA</strong>s, winning the Horizon League titleover Butler. Third-seeded Pepperdine (16-1-2) is ranked No. 5 in the NSCAA/adidasrankings and earned an automatic bid, winning its conference championship game.WISCONSIN’S <strong>NCAA</strong> TOURNEY HISTORYUW returns to the <strong>NCAA</strong> tournament after a year hiatus. Bucky has made the tournamentfour times in the last seven years, each time making it in the even year. In 1996, ‘98and ‘00, Wisconsin won their first round game and fell in the second round.Wisconsin’s 12 appearances in the <strong>NCAA</strong>s top all other Big Ten programs, with PennState <strong>com</strong>ing in second with eight showings. The Badgers’ best national finish was in1991, when UW took second to North Carolina in the final game of the year.REGIONAL RANKINGSAfter finishing second at the Big Ten tournament, the Badgers moved up to the No. 6spot from No. 10 in the Nov. 11 NSCAA/adidas Great Lakes Regional Rankings. Big Tenfoes Purdue, Michigan, Michigan State and Indiana fall in at No. 1, No. 4, No. 7 and No.9 in the region. First-round <strong>NCAA</strong> opponent Marquette is ranked No. 5.BIG TEN TOURNAMENT RECAPAfter missing the tournament last season, the Badgers advanced to the title game with1-0 wins over Michigan State and Illlinois. Wisconsin’s forwards stepped up big in thefirst two games with Amy Vermeulen, Jenny Kundert and Jessica Wolff <strong>com</strong>bining to putthe Badgers in the title game.Wisconsin fell to OSU, 2-1, in the title game, taking runner-up honors for the thirdtime in program history. UW took second in 1995 and 1996 and won the inaugural tournamentas hosts in 1994.
