Strategy 2 - Student InvolvementWe will put into place a framework of independent and interdependent programs and opportunities toencourage and grow student involvement in extra and co-curricular activities.SPECIFIC RESULT: The district will designate a StudentActivities Coordinator who will be responsible for training andsupporting the Campus Student Activities Coordinators and serve asthe central contact for extra and co-curricular activities byestablishing policies and procedures.* Develop an annual training program for Campus Student ActivitiesCoordinators and Activity Advisors.* Convene a quarterly network meeting with the Campus StudentActivities Coordinators.* Continually seek out new opportunities to encourage and grow studentinvolvement in extra and co-curricular activities.* Liaise with the district’s Director of Communications to promote andpublicize student activity programs.* Provide a platform for community and civic organizations to engage inprogram sponsorship.* Create engaging web content to promote student involvement in extraand co-curricular activities.* Compile a resource guide including, but not limited to, guidelinesas well as relevant policies and procedures for use by Campus StudentActivities Coordinator and sponsors to ensure consistency throughout thedistrict.* Continually seek out new opportunities to encourage and grow studentinvolvement in extra and co-curricular activities.* Serve as a support system for campus activities sponsors.* Communicate current information about extra and co-curricularactivities with the campus, district, and community.* Maintain and distribute campus activities/events calendar.* Oversee campus extra and co-curricular fund raising activities.SPECIFIC RESULT: Use a media environment that effectivelycommunicates with parents and students about extra andco-curricular activities.* The District will support a website that provides current links to acomplete list and descriptions of campus student activity program pagesacross the ISD.* Each campus will maintain a page on their website containing currentinformation and contacts for all extra and co-curricular studentactivity programs including downloadable or online forms for enrollmentor parental permission.* The District will implement a communication process that facilitatesupdating website content by campus student activity coordinators andprogram sponsors.SPECIFIC RESULT: Each campus, along with the District StudentActivities Coordinator, will designate Campus Student ActivitiesCoordinator who will be responsible for coordinating and promotingstudent involvement in extra and co-curricular activities.*Liaise with the DSAC.* Attend annual training and quarterly meetings arranged by the DSAC.Strategy 3 - Post Secondary ReadinessWe will strategically organize the district to provide instructionalprograms to prepare students for post-secondary readiness.SPECIFIC RESULT: Campus grade level grouping will bereconfigured.* Establish an internal taskforce comprised of BISD employees toreconfigure campuses to K-5, 6-8, 9-12.* Collect research to support reconfiguration.* Establish an external task force to include key internal BISD task forcemembers, parents, community members, and business personnel from allareas of attendance zones.* Establish a timeline and tasks such as rationale for reconfiguration,researching building capacities, cost analysis, etc. for the spring andsummer meetings with the internal committee.* Establish a timeline and tasks such as FAQ’s, communication strategies,etc. for the spring and summer meetings with the external committee.* Develop timeline and content for “town hall” meetings for communitymembers.* Develop calendar and content of Parent Information Night(s)* Examine campus student capacities and grade level spans, feederpatterns and growth patterns.* Draft boundary maps.* Determine final student capacity and grade levels.* Determine final boundary maps.* Develop publicity materials (brochure, poster, etc.).* Disseminate PR materials-posters, brochures, websites, news releasesexplaining reconfiguration and public information materials.
Strategy 3 - Post Secondary Readiness continued* Develop plan for communicating reconfiguration to BISD staff.* Reorganize faculty.* Outline transportation options and needs.* Finalize transportation services.* Implement transition programs to help students transition betweencampuses.* Transfer campus resources.SPECIFIC RESULT: Introduce Spanish Language at elementary asan organized, intensive early intervention.SPECIFIC RESULT: Implement First Move Chess as an organized,intensive early intervention.* Pursue outside funding.* Provide “First Move Chess” informational sessions for ElementarySchool Principals and all 2nd & 3rd grade teachers, if funding received.* Purchase “First Move Chess” curriculum (includes all neededinstructional materials) for all 2nd grade classes, if funding received.* Implement “First Move Chess” curriculum 1 hour/week for all 2ndgrade classes, if funding received.* Provide “First Move Chess” informational sessions for any newElementary School Principals and 2nd & 3rd grade teachers if fundingreceived.* Purchase “First Move Chess” curriculum (includes all neededinstructional materials) for all 3rd grade classes, if funding received.* Implement “First Move Chess” curriculum 1 hour/week for all 2nd &3rd grade classes, if funding received.SPECIFIC RESULT: Increase identification and participation in thepre-K program as an organized, intensive early intervention.* Conduct a community meeting to provide information regarding a PKprogram.* Investigate/Pursue full day program.* Communicate and advertise pre-registration for Pre-K program.* Pre-register students to determine student enrollment, staffing, operatingand transportation needs.* Interview and hire staff to accommodate enrollment.* Schedule transportation.SPECIFIC RESULT: Integrate academic, technological, and 21stCentury skills in every class to create graduates equipped forsuccessful post secondary experiences.* Train teachers on how to integrate 21st Century skills into their dailyprojects and lessons.* Create assessment pieces that evaluate students on campus learningoutcomes based on District 21st Century skills.* Equip grade level/core area teachers with current technology devices forintegration of technology and 21st Century skills.* Train teachers on using technology as a tool to engage students in thelearning process and developing assessment products.* Develop technology skill focus throughout the year to ensureproficiency.* Implement and monitor the consistent use of technology at all gradelevels and classrooms K-12.* Incorporate surveys for teachers and students to continuously definemeaningful learning experiences and measure effective teaching.* Expose students to opportunities for internships, apprenticeships, on thejob training, and trade training for students who are not planning to attendcollege.* Educate the community about 21st Century skills.* Provide individual counseling for all students grade 5–12 to help eachstudent understand their educational needs and set future goals forpost-secondary education.* Implement project based learning, sheltered instruction, 21st Centuryskills, differentiation, and thinking maps at K–12.* Provide rigorous course offerings at all grade levels to prepare allstudents for post secondary success.SPECIFIC RESULT: Intervention/enrichment will be implemented inorder to increase participation in and improve scores on entrance andcollege readiness exams.* Survey students in Grade 9 to begin gathering information on postsecondaryplans.* Recruit staff, community members and BHS alumni to volunteer time tooffer additional tutorial/ assistance as math coaches and writing coaches.* Create small group intensive study/ test prep groups. In addition, addcontent to programs designed to help students improve their study skills;collect, organize, and retain factual information; take better notes; managetheir time more effectively and efficiently; work in teams; and reflect onthe quality of their work.* Utilize campus intervention study time during the academic day forintervention/ enrichment activities.* Extend test prep opportunities to afterschool and Saturdays.Is this a lofty plan that may not be followed?No. The objective of this planning is:* To create a long-term strategic plan by rejuvenating theDistrict’s planning process.* To insure implementation through complete organizationlalignment and systemizations of site unit plansand action.* By providing this method of planning, it is not onlyincumbent upon the District to follow the plan, but theentire community will have ownership.
