The Prayer Center of Orland Park Monthly NewsletterPurification of the HeartO Muslims, what does it mean to have a pure and clean heart? A pure heart isone that is free from hatred, envy, and dislike towards other Muslims. It is one ofthe best characteristics a person can possess. The Prophet Muhammad usedto be very keen on protecting his heart and making it pure.He would say in the prayer: “Oh Allah, I ask you to make me firm in my affairs, and upon the guidance. I ask you to help me thank you for your blessings, andto perfect my worship, and I ask you for a pure heart.”We can see an example of how the Prophet taught his people to purify theirhearts from this hatred towards others. One time a group of Muslims startedfighting with each other because they were from different tribes: Al-Aws andAl-Khazraj. Some of them got up ready to fight. When the Prophet Muhammadfound out, he came to them in anger and said, “Allah, Allah, oh Muslims, are you calling towards Jaahiliyyah (ignorance) while I am still among you?Do not become disbelievers after me by killing each other.” When the peopleheard this they cried and made up to one another. He taught the people thatwhen the people’s hearts are pure, and they are united, they will stay far fromevil and disbelief. But when the hearts are differing and are impure, people willturn to evil. The purity of our hearts is important for our deeds to be accepted. The Prophet told us that our deeds are presented to Allah every Monday andThursday, and Allah forgives people as long as they do not make partners withhim. However, if there are two people that have hatred between them, Allahsays to the angels, “put a Hold (on their good deeds) for these two until theymake up with each other.” So see how much you will lose on your good deedsif you keep hatred and ill feelings in your heart. The Prophet Yusuf was a beautiful example of forgiveness. Even after hisbrothers threw him in the well and wished him to die, he forgave them yearslater and asked Allah for their forgiveness. He even made excuses for them, saying that it was the Shaytaan that had led them astray. And years beforethis, in mankind’s beginning, was what Adam’s son Haabeel said to his brotherwhen he found out that Qabeel wished to kill him. He said, “If you stretch yourhand to kill me, I will never extend my hand to kill you. I fear Allah, lord of theworlds.”How many of us cannot even forgive someone just because he forgets aninvitation of ours? Or because he cuts in front of us with his car? Or becausehe said something and we take it the wrong way? Isn’t it the sign of a beautifulheart if you say whenever you shake your brother’s hand, “May Allah forgiveyou and me.” And then he intends in his heart to forgive all his friend’s shortcomings.May Allah give us a heart that is pure and loving and a soul that baressmall wrongs and mistakes of others and forgives each other’s mistakes. Forremember that when your friend comes to you with one fault, he has with himthousands of other good characteristics.10Sheikh Jamal ShakerAbdullah’s CornerMasajid: The Houses of AllahDear Muslims, Our prophet peace be upon him talked about seven men whomwill be included in his mercy that was described as a shade when there is nomercy but Allah’s mercy in the day after. One of these seven men is a manwhose heart loved Masjids. There is a strong, healthy, Islamic relationship betweenthe Muslim’s heart and the Masjid. Masjids are considered to be thebest and the modest spots on the earth by Allah. Angels of Allah surroundMasjids and make prayer to those Muslims who meet and pray. In addition tothat, Allah sends his mercy to purify Muslims hearts in these Masjids in whichthey gather to pray and bow to the only God.Dear Muslims, going to Masjids on regularly bases is a great cure for all of ourhearts diseases. It is the perfect cure for the one who wants to have a pure soulfor Allah. During the last days of our prophet’s life, he forced himself to walkto the Masjid and pray regardless of how much pain he had. His wife, A’ischa, described him walking to the Masjid as a man pulling and dragging his feet onthe ground because of the fact that his feet couldn’t hold him anymore. When you leave your home going to the Masjid to perform a prayer, you willbe under Allah’s mercy and guidance. If you perform wudhu before you leave,Allah will consider this good dead as a person performing Hajj.Dear Muslims, Praying until midnight is a difficult thing to do; however, prayingIsha in the Masjid is considered by Allah as a person who prayed half a night.Staying awake for the whole night praying is also a difficult thing to do; yet,Allah awards the man who prays Fajr in the Masjid as a man who stayed upall night praying and worshiping. If a Muslim performed two hundred prayersin forty days considering that all the prayers have been reached from theirbeginnings this Muslim will have two great rewards. Those rewards are notfrom humans; they are from creator of the earths and the skies. The firstreward is the innocence from hell, and the second reward is the innocencefrom hypocrisy. But how does a Muslim reach the prayers from their beginnings?!Two aspects have to be performed and taken into consideration; thefirst is standing in the lines among the Muslim brothers in the Masjid when theImam begins the prayer. The second is to start the prayer as soon as the Imamstarts it. If a Muslim performs that for fully forty days, he will receive those tworewards. Muslims, throughout the history, who perform their prayers this way, have indicated that this way is a main reason of their strength in their religion. It was mentioned in the Islamic history that a man named Al-Harith bin Hassanmarried a woman. At that night, he was seen in the Masjid praying Fajr. HisMuslim brothers asked him “Do you leave your house during your first night?!”He replied, “A woman prevents her husband from praying in the Masjid shallbe a bad woman”.Dear Muslims, Enemies of Allah have known the remarkable moral value ofthe Masjid and its impact upon our lives. Unfortunately, they have known thatmore than we have. Therefore, they have planned as well as possible to destroythem by destroying our morals and desire toward them. As a result, visitingand praying in the Masjid is a great need which all Muslims are require tosatisfy. It is our responsibility to protect the Masjids from being forgotten andoverlooked.
