By 2020,€90,000M are expected to be invested in smart grids worldwide. Spanish technological companiescould capture a part of this potential market (€1,200M to 2,000M a year) in those geographiesmost attractive for the sale of Spanish products.Smart grids will help maintain and drive our country’s current leadership in Europe and theworld in the power industry. Spanish companies have been the bellwether in power grid management,with double the European average in cost efficiency and a sustained improvement in qualitylevels (up 8% a year since 2006). Smart grids will help maintain and increase this leadership,strengthening Spanish companies’ skills to help them develop new business opportunities abroadand play an active role in the reconfiguration of the European and world power industry.5
