<strong>2006</strong> Game <strong>Recap</strong>sGame 7 - CMU 18, Ball State 7October 14 • Mount PleasantDan LeFevour accounted for 246 yards of offense and ran for twotouchdowns to lead CMU to an 18-7 win.The CMU defense was the story, limiting the conference’s toppassing offense to just 160 yards through the air and forcing fiveturnovers. The defense also held the Cardinals out of the end zone onfive consecutive snaps inside the 5-yard line in the fourth quarter.LeFevour scored on a 15-yard run in the first quarter and a 3-yardrun in the third quarter to stake the Chippewas to a 12-0 lead. He was6-for-6 passing for 66 yards and ran for 10 yards, accounting for all76 yards on the third-quarter march.Brad Salyer scored from the 1-yard line on third-and-goal with 2:00left in the third quarter, but the Chippewas took advantage of a keyBall State turnover to put the game out of reach. B.J. Hill fumbled apunt that Josh Gordy recovered at the 7-yard line, and two plays laterMarcel Archer scored from the 1-yard line to extend the CMU lead to18-7 with 13:20 remaining.The Cardinals drove to the doorstep of the end zone on theirensuing possession, but the CMU defense came up with the goal-linestand and the offense responded by draining 4:31 off the fourthquarterclock.The teams traded punts on their first two possessions, includinga career-long 78-yard bomb by CMU’s Tony Mikulec, before theChippewas drove 62 yards in eight plays to go in front, 6-0. Later in the quarter, Fraser intercepted a pass,broke a tackle along the sideline and returned the pick 47 yards forthe score.Albreski’s field goal in the second quarter stretched the CMU leadto 17-0, the Chippewas’ largest first-half lead of the season.Bowling Green responded with two touchdown drives in the finaleight minutes of the first half to pull within a field goal, 17-14.Anthony Turner tossed a 6-yard touchdown pass to Freddie Barnes,then BG capitalized on a Sneed fumble with a 14-play, 55-yard drivethat Barnes capped with a 1-yard touchdown run.On the second play of the fourth quarter, following a run for aloss of 3 yards and a penalty, Dan LeFevour hit Cétoute over themiddle, and the senior receiver out-ran the BGSU secondary for the88-yard score. Rick Albreski’s point-after made it 24-14 with 14:06remaining.Bowling Green drove to the CMU 7-yard line on the ensuingpossession, but the drive ended when Cétoute blocked Sean Ellis’24-yard field goal attempt. The CMU offense then responded bymarching 80 yards in 11 plays, the final 15 yards coming on aLeFevour-to-Justin Gardner touchdown pass.
